The essentials to know about the Strymon La Brea Tape Drive: 100% analog tape saturation capable of covering a vast sonic range, from a warm clean boost to a dense, expressive fuzz. Adjustable Dry circuit that remains constantly in phase to preserve attack, definition and fullness, even at high saturation levels. Two gain ranges and three frequency voicings let you adapt the pedal’s response to your guitar, amplifier and place in the mix. 24 V internal operation provides generous dynamic headroom, low background noise and an excellent playing feel.
The Deco spirit revisited in a dedicated analog overdrive
The Strymon La Brea Tape Drive was born from a simple idea: to isolate and explore in greater depth the character of saturation inspired by tape machines. Its development follows in the footsteps of the renowned Deco, drawing on its warm, compressed and organic magnetic-tape approach, but in a format entirely dedicated to drive. It does not attempt to reproduce a classic transistor overdrive or the mid hump of a Tube Screamer-style pedal. The La Brea develops its own personality through multiple saturation stages, combined with frequency shaping inspired by the behavior of a tape recorder. The result is more responsive, smoother and more lively than conventional distortion.
This pedal is part of Strymon’s analog series: no digital processing, no signal conversion and no unnecessary features. It is designed for musicians looking for harmonically rich saturation, a natural response under the fingers and excellent integration into a modern pedalboard.
