A Tool Born for Filming and Post-Production
The FR-AV2 condenses the demands of modern filming into a compact and rugged housing. Its 32-bit float conversion with dual A/D converters and TCXO clock generator ensure stability and dynamic range, while simplifying audio/video alignment thanks to LTC timecode compatible with Tentacle and jam-sync.
Who Is It For? Videographers, Sound Engineers, and Creators
Whether you shoot with a DSLR, mirrorless, or cinema camera, the FR-AV2 secures your takes: interviews, reports, ambiances, or live recordings. The XLR/TRS combo inputs accept condenser microphones (48/24 V) and line sources, while the 3.5 mm mini-jack input accommodates wireless receivers, lavalier mics, or camera return audio.
Key Features and New Additions
32-bit Float Recording Without Gain Stress
With 32 bits and up to 192 kHz, the FR-AV2 handles peaks and saves whispers where 16/24-bit systems might clip or lose resolution. Per-input delay adjustment (0-300 ms) facilitates phase coherence between microphones.
Quiet Preamps and Onboard Processing
The Ultra HDDA preamps offer an exemplary signal-to-noise ratio. Switchable high-pass filter, compressor, limiter, and noise gate allow delivering clean tracks right from the recording.
Advanced Timecode and Synchronization
LTC input/output on 3.5 mm, jam-sync, Tentacle compatibility, and wireless sync with Atomos UltraSync Blue via AK-BT1/AK-BT2 Bluetooth adapter. Bluetooth audio monitoring is possible with the AK-BT2 adapter (optional).
Comprehensive Connectivity and Interface Mode
Two XLR/6.3 mm jack combos, stereo line input on 3.5 mm, headphone output on 3.5 mm, and camera-level output with adjustable attenuation. The USB-C port turns the FR-AV2 into a USB 2x2 audio interface supporting 32-bit float.

Questions frequently asked
Does the Tascam FR-AV2 record in 32-bit float?
Recording reaches 32-bit float up to 192 kHz, with dual A/D converters. This architecture provides a wide margin for peaks and low-level signals.
Can two phantom-powered XLR microphones be connected?
The two combo XLR/6.3 mm jack inputs accept microphones and line sources. Phantom power at 48 V or 24 V is available for condenser microphones.
Is the LTC timecode compatible with Tentacle?
The LTC sync on 3.5 mm mini-jack is Tentacle compatible and supports jam-sync. An AK-BT1 or AK-BT2 adapter also enables wireless sync with Atomos UltraSync Blue. The TCXO oscillator ensures clock stability.
Which memory cards are compatible?
The recorder accepts microSD cards from 64 MB to 2 GB, microSDHC from 4 to 32 GB, and microSDXC up to 512 GB.
Can it be used as a USB audio interface?
Via its USB-C port, it can be used as a 2x2 USB audio interface compatible with 32-bit float. A 3.5 mm headphone output and a camera output with adjustable attenuation facilitate monitoring and signal sending.
