A Modern Tribute to the British 'Jangle' of the 60s

The "AC30 Top Boost" sound is one of the most recognizable signatures in guitar history: crystal-clear cleans that snap, a lively high end, and a crunch that remains articulate even when played aggressively. The DC30 Preamp follows this tradition by recreating the behavior of a 1965 Top Boost combo, while offering a modern approach: two instantly usable channels, an integrated booster, and an official IR cab simulation section for direct PA playing or amp-free recording.

Within the range, the idea is clear: to offer an "amp-in-a-box" that can become the heart of a pedalboard, whether used in front of an amp (as a preamp/colour box) or as a direct output (as a complete rig).

For Which Guitarists and Styles?

This pedal is aimed equally at beginner guitarists who want premium amp tone through headphones, as well as intermediate and professional musicians seeking a compact and reliable solution for live and studio use. It excels in brit rock, pop, blues, indie, and jangle styles, but also serves as a dynamic platform for more modern gain pedals.

In a concert context, the DI output with Celestion simulation lets you send a consistent signal to front of house and monitors without a mic or placement variations. In the home studio, it simplifies direct recording with a realistic amp color. And for practice, the headphone output provides a true "amp feel" at zero volume, ideal for playing without disturbing others.

Controls, Modes, and Connectivity: A Pedal Designed Like a Real Amp

Setup is immediate: on the front panel, you find amp-inspired controls with NORMAL and BRILLIANT (channel gains), LEVEL (master volume), BASS and TREBLE to set the foundation, then CUT to musically adjust brightness. The Cut is key to shift from a biting and "present" high end to a smoother tone, perfect with single-coil pickups or direct recording.

The BOOST is footswitch-activated and can be placed before or after the preamp via the PRE/POST switch. In Pre mode, it pushes the model harder and adds a more "overdrive" character with a more pronounced midrange; in Post mode, it acts mainly as a level boost to stand out in solos without drastically changing your gain. Boost gain is adjustable via the BOOST GAIN control.

For stage and studio, the pedal offers a main output and a dedicated Direct Out (cab sim), both on 6.35mm TRS balanced jacks with ground lift detection, plus a headphone output on 3.5mm TRS stereo mini-jack. A USB Mini-B port is included for firmware updates. The bypass is buffered, and the CHANNEL footswitch can operate in channel switching mode with optional bypass or in "always on" mode depending on your playing style.

The Sound

The DC30 Preamp aims for an organic and responsive sound: a clean that "sounds wide" with beautiful string-by-string definition, and a crunch that gradually emerges as you increase gain or pick harder. Dynamics are central to the experience: lower the guitar volume to clean up, raise it to regain the classic British edge-of-breakup.

The Treble/Cut duo allows fine adjustment of brightness: perfect for recovering the "jangly" bite in open chords, or conversely smoothing the high end for rounder leads. With the boost in Pre mode, you easily get a denser, singing drive, ideal for bringing out a melody without losing the AC30 identity.

If you like the tones heard from artists associated with this type of amp (for example, styles ranging from jangle pop to arena rock), you're in the right sonic family: present attack, rich harmonics, and that natural compression that makes you want to play. And if you already use drive, fuzz, or modulation pedals, the DC30 behaves as a very credible platform : it handles boosts, overdrives, and delays/reverbs in chain well to build a true pedalboard sound.
