A vintage "true pitch" vibrato designed for modern pedalboards

Vibrato is one of the most expressive modulation effects: unlike chorus (which blends a modulated signal with a dry signal), it varies the pitch of the signal distinctly, creating that organic and slightly "floating" movement that is immediately recognizable. The Tailspin Vibrato follows this tradition with a simple and direct approach: a warm modulation inspired by classic textures and the very characteristic colors of the '80s, but in a robust and reliable format, ready to withstand rehearsals and gigs.

Designed to focus on the essentials, it primarily aims for playing enjoyment: you plug in, adjust Rate and Depth, and quickly find your ideal zone, whether you're looking for a barely perceptible vibration to bring chords to life or a more pronounced vibrato for hypnotic melodic lines.

For whom, which styles, and in what contexts?

The TC Electronic Tailspin Vibrato is aimed at guitarists (and bassists) who want a simple, musical, and easy-to-integrate vibrato pedal. Its ergonomics suit both beginners discovering modulation effects and experienced guitarists who want a dedicated vibrato, quick to dial in on a pedalboard.

Style-wise, it feels at home in rock, pop, indie, surf, psychedelic, new wave, and all aesthetics where expressive pitch movement is sought. In the studio, it adds a very "recorded" vibration on clean guitars, pick arpeggios, or more airy parts. Live, it instantly transforms a basic sound into a wider and livelier texture without complicating your effects chain.

Features and handling: the efficiency of two controls

The Tailspin focuses on a streamlined interface, ideal when you want to adjust by ear, quickly and effectively. The Rate knob adjusts the modulation speed: slow for a gentle drifting sensation, faster for a trembling and nervous effect. The Depth knob controls the intensity, i.e., the amplitude of the pitch variation: low for a subtle movement that "animates" the sound, higher for a very marked vibrato that can become intentionally unstable.

The footswitch activates or bypasses the effect, with true bypass when the pedal is off, to keep your tone and dynamics intact. The 6.35mm Jack connectivity fits naturally between your overdrives, delays, and reverbs, and the 9V power supply makes it compatible with most pedalboard power sources.

Sound signature

The Tailspin's sonic signature is a round, warm, and authentic vibrato, capable of ranging from a discreet thrill (perfect for adding a "tap" sensation and slight movement to chords) to a deeper, almost "liquid" effect that draws the ear to a melody. It responds well to playing dynamics: the harder you play, the more the modulation seems to highlight the expressive and vocal side of your phrasing, especially on clean or slightly crunchy tones.

If you like modulations that don't sound "clinical" but rather lively and a bit retro, the Tailspin is an excellent candidate. This modern-vintage vibrato spirit can be found with guitarists like Martin Miller, and it has also been spotted on indie/psychedelic-oriented setups (for example Astrel K with Ulrika Spacek), confirming its affinity with moving textures and dreamy atmospheres.
