Apollo Twin X Gen2: an evolution focused on listening
The Apollo Twin X Gen2 extends the Apollo concept: combining audio conversion, UAD processing and monitoring control in a compact interface. Compared with the first-generation Twin X, it notably benefits from improved digital-to-analog conversion, optimized monitor and headphone outputs, and the Auto-Gain function. These developments improve both mixing precision and recording preparation.
Within the range, the DUO version features two DSP processors, compared with four in the QUAD. It retains the same connectivity and conversion quality as the latter: the difference lies in the capacity for simultaneous UAD plug-in processing. A consistent choice for working primarily solo or recording a few sources at a time.
An interface designed to refine recordings from the very first notes
Vocals, guitar, bass or synthesizer: this Thunderbolt audio interface brings together the connections needed for a personal production setup. Its two analog inputs allow you to record a stereo source or two microphones, while the front-panel instrument input makes it easy to connect a guitar. Monitoring control and the built-in talkback microphone also simplify communication with a performer positioned away from the desk.
Unison, DSP and assisted adjustment: a smoother studio workflow
Real interaction between the instrument and the preamp
Unison technology does more than apply coloration after recording. With a compatible emulation, it adjusts the input impedance and gain structure, among other parameters, to reproduce the interaction between the modeled hardware and your source. The integrated UAD processing then lets you build a monitoring chain with preamp, equalization or compression while performing.
Auto-Gain for preparing levels
Available in UAD Console, Auto-Gain analyzes the signal while you play or sing, then adjusts the gain of the selected inputs. The aim is to quickly prepare suitable levels before recording. However, its availability depends on the plug-in loaded in the Unison slot: not all emulations support this function. For a guitar connected via Hi-Z with an amp simulation, Universal Audio recommends manual adjustment with the gain set to minimum.
Monitoring that adapts to your setup
UAD Console offers subwoofer management with Bass Management and the ability to save processing configurations with Plug-In Scenes. These software tools complement the Gen2 hardware improvements; Bass Management is also compatible with first-generation Apollo X interfaces.
The interface also supports Apollo Monitor Correction by Sonarworks for applying calibration to your monitoring. This function requires the appropriate SoundID Reference and Apollo Monitor Correction licenses; a compatible measurement microphone is required to calibrate the speakers. It should therefore not be confused with a complete measurement system included with the interface.
