What the UAD Manley VOXBOX Channel Strip Is For
The UAD Manley VOXBOX Channel Strip is a comprehensive processing plug-in designed to give your recordings an instantly recognizable studio signature: controlled dynamics, silky highs, and a dense yet natural low end. It excels on lead vocals, backings, and voice-overs, while remaining very effective on sources that require class and presence such as bass, clean electric guitar, strings, or drum elements (overheads, room) when you seek a musical and clean sound.
Main Features
The VOXBOX Sound: Tube Preamp, Dynamics, and EQ in One Flow
The VOXBOX is designed as a true recording chain: a Class A tube microphone preamp with high-end character, followed by a dynamics section and a Pultec-style passive equalizer. The result: an all-in-one processing that adds body, depth, and professional polish, especially on vocals where the balance between warmth and precision is crucial.
Pultec-Style Passive EQ: Broad, Smooth, and Effective
The three-band EQ draws inspiration from the Pultec spirit (extended MEQ-5 base) with an approach ideal for quick and musical adjustments: adding air without harshness, cutting problematic areas without altering the source, or boosting lows without a "boomy" effect. Even with pronounced boosts or cuts, the EQ remains natural and keeps the source lively, making it a perfect ally in both mixing and tracking.
Optical Compression: Controlled Transients Before the Preamp
As with the hardware, you can tame transients before the preamp thanks to the optical compression. With its interactive Attack and Release combinations, it delivers smooth and stable dynamics without crushing emotion, ideal for modern vocals (pop, R&B, rap, rock) and for anchoring bass in the mix.
De-Esser and Limiter: Transparency, Then Character If You Want
At the heart of the VOXBOX, the de-esser is designed to reduce sibilance organically, with simple and precise control. It's equally useful on overly bright guitars or aggressive cymbals. Need to go further? The section can also transform into a more assertive limiter to add bite and hold a stubborn signal.
Real-Time Recording with Apollo and Unison
With a compatible Apollo system, Unison technology allows you to monitor and record "through" the VOXBOX in real time, replicating the preamp's behavior (impedance, gain staging, circuit responses). Convenient for making decisions during tracking and immediately obtaining a sound ready to fit into a dense mix.

Questions frequently asked
Is the UAD Manley VOXBOX Channel Strip compatible with Windows 11 and macOS Sonoma?
Compatibility includes Windows 10 and 11 64-bit, as well as macOS Catalina 10.15 through Sonoma 14. Intel, AMD, and Apple silicon processors are supported.
What processing is included in this channel strip?
The chain combines a Class A tube microphone preamp, an optical compressor, an extended MEQ-5 inspired passive EQ, and a de-esser/limiter.
Is this plugin suitable for processing a lead vocal?
The tube preamp adds body to the recording, while the optical compression stabilizes transients. The de-esser reduces sibilance with dedicated control. The Pultec-style EQ allows adding air or correcting problematic areas without harshening the vocal.
Can recording be done with Unison on an Apollo interface?
With a compatible Apollo system, Unison technology enables real-time tracking and recording through the preamp. Impedance, gain staging, and circuit responses are emulated.
Can the de-esser be used on guitar or cymbals?
This section can tame overly bright guitars and harsh cymbals, then be set as a limiter for more pronounced signal control.
