Vandoren BLACK DIAMOND - CLAR BB (BD2)

Black Diamond: A Unique Vandoren Series Within the Range

Historically established at "56 rue Lepic," the Vandoren company has become a worldwide reference, both for its mouthpieces and reeds. The Black Diamond series exemplifies this reputation: a model with refined design, developed to offer a distinctive sound identity, with particular attention to internal design and finishing. The result: a mouthpiece that is both modern in approach and very "traditional" in spirit, ideal for those seeking a broad and controlled sound.

For Which Clarinetist and Repertoire?

This mouthpiece is primarily aimed at classically oriented clarinetists, from intermediate to advanced levels, who wish to gain comfort in response while retaining substance in the sound. It is especially suitable for classical repertoire (orchestra, chamber music, conservatory), where a clean projection, stable intonation, and smooth continuity between chalumeau, clarion, and altissimo registers are sought.

Sound and Design

Made of ebonite, this mouthpiece offers a flexible playing sensation and excellent consistency. Its 1.02 mm tip opening combined with an ML facing aims for a balance between ease of attack, control, and timbre density. The resulting sound is round and full, with a natural response that aids in shaping dynamics and note sustain, while maintaining good homogeneity across registers. The 442 tuning is designed to integrate easily with European practices, especially in ensemble settings.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

To preserve the precision of the facing and the hygiene of the mouthpiece, the use of a mouthpiece cap and a swab suitable for Bb clarinet is strongly recommended. A ligature for Bb clarinet mouthpiece will be necessary, but since compatibility varies by brand and model, it is best to choose a ligature specifically indicated for Bb clarinet mouthpieces.
