Historical Context and Positioning in the Range
The SD2 is part of the Vic Firth American Custom series, a line originally designed by Vic Firth himself, a percussionist and a major figure in the orchestral world. This series stood out for its then-innovative design approach, notably the use of a round tip on models designed to cover demanding contexts: from conservatories to studios, including jazz, pop, and rock. Within the American Custom family, the SD2 is positioned as a stick focused on control and nuance, with a comfortable profile without excessive weight.
Who This Drumstick Is For
The Vic Firth American Custom SD2 is aimed at intermediate to advanced drummers seeking a thick stick for hand comfort while maintaining a light and responsive feel. It is particularly suitable for jazz (delicate playing, nuanced brushes, precise ride), orchestral playing, and studio contexts where consistency and dynamic control are paramount. It also works very well in various styles when aiming for clean, steady playing without over-accentuation.

The best chopsticks (for me)!!! Usable for all styles of music, their large size makes it easy to grip the stick and the rather light weight makes it easy to handle.
