A Modern "Tempo Brain" at the Heart of Pedalboards
The Canvas Clock addresses a now central need in current rigs: to circulate reliable tempo information among delays, reverbs, modulations, multi-effects, and BPM-synced machines. Rather than multiplying solutions (separate tap tempo, CV boxes, dedicated MIDI clock), it offers an all-in-one performance-oriented approach: you prepare your songs, organize your setlists, then control your effects ecosystem coherently, both on stage and in the studio.
For Whom and in What Contexts?
The Walrus Audio Canvas Clock is aimed at guitarists (and more broadly musicians) who use multiple time-based effects and want a clean, reproducible, and quick-to-recall set. It is especially relevant if you play to a click, switch tempos from one song to another, or need to synchronize preset changes with the tempo.
In live settings, it secures transitions (next/previous song, global tap tempo, dedicated metronome). In the studio, it facilitates takes whenever your chain needs to stay locked (synchronized delay, tempo-based tremolo, rhythmic modulations), while maintaining a logical song and recall structure.
Controls, Modes, and Connectivity: Advanced Tempo Management
The Canvas Clock combines full management of MIDI and analog clock to synchronize "almost everything" that depends on tempo, time, or BPM. Its main song list can hold up to 128 songs with name, BPM, and MIDI Macro information, and you can then organize these songs into different setlists according to your gigs.
To automate a complex rig, you can create up to 128 programmable MIDI macros, each containing up to 15 MIDI commands (program change, control change, etc.). The idea is simple: when recalling a song, you can also trigger preset changes on compatible multi-effects or pedals, maintaining tempo + sound coherence without footswitch choreography.
On the connections side, the 4 configurable 6.35 mm TRS jacks can be assigned as tempo output, CV output, switch input, and EXP input. This is a strong point if you need to send clock and expression to pedals without MIDI. You also have MIDI input/output (DIN and 3.5 mm jack connectors), a metronome output on 3.5 mm jack, as well as a Sync In/Out port designed for Eurorack-style synchronization environments.
The interface is designed to remain readable in real conditions thanks to a 2.8-inch TFT LCD screen. The USB-C connectivity is used for firmware updates and managing settings, songs, and setlists via a dedicated web application. Finally, the assignable footswitches A and B (e.g., switching songs, tap tempo) let you adapt control to your playing style.
The Sound
The Canvas Clock is not a "sound" pedal in the traditional sense: its impact is mainly felt in the rhythmic precision and coherence of your effects chain. When the tempo is stable and shared across the rig, delay repeats, synchronized modulations, and preset changes feel sharper, more "locked," with a more relaxed playing experience. It's typically the kind of tool you don't notice when everything is working well... but that becomes indispensable once you've experienced a truly synchronized pedalboard.

Questions frequently asked
Can the Walrus Audio Canvas Clock synchronize both MIDI and non-MIDI pedals?
It supports both MIDI clock and analog connections. The four 6.35 mm TRS jacks can be configured as tempo output, CV output, switch input, or expression input to integrate pedals without MIDI.
How many songs and setlists can be prepared?
The main list can hold up to 128 songs, each with a name, BPM, and MIDI macro information. Songs can then be organized into different setlists according to gigs.
Is it possible to change effect presets when recalling a song?
Up to 128 programmable MIDI macros are available, with a maximum of 15 MIDI commands per macro. These can send program changes or control commands to compatible gear. Recalling a song can thus associate tempo and preset commands.
What MIDI connectivity and synchronization options are available?
The device features MIDI DIN and 3.5 mm jack input/output, as well as Sync In/Out jacks designed for Eurorack-style sync environments. There is also a 3.5 mm metronome output.
What power supply is required for the Canvas Clock?
A 9 V power supply capable of delivering 300 mA is required.
