Jupiter V2: a modern fuzz crafted for big sound, and easier to dial in

The Jupiter was designed with a simple idea: to offer a gritty, thick and loud fuzz, capable of being both massive and usable in a real mix. While some fuzzes impose a very pronounced frequency bump, the Jupiter V2 focuses on more musical settings to choose whether your guitar should stand out in the foreground or rather blend with the drums and rhythm section.

This V2 version goes even further in the "pedalboard friendly" aspect: more available gain, a smoother volume control to quickly find the right level (especially unity gain), and a revised tone for better response in the high frequencies. Add to that an updated look (new visual, "coal sparkle" powder coat finish) and brushed aluminum knobs: the Jupiter V2 fully embraces its status as an essential fuzz.

Who is the Jupiter V2 for?

The Walrus Audio Jupiter V2 is aimed at guitarists (and bassists depending on context) who want an expressive and versatile fuzz without dealing with a complicated setup. It suits both intermediate and advanced players, as its controls remain straightforward while offering real customization thanks to the clipping switches, Bass Cut, and internal gate.

In practice, it shines in rock, stoner, garage, punk, heavy styles, but can also become an excellent texture fuzz in indie and ambient when playing with dynamics and filtering. In the studio, it allows precise sculpting of the spectrum to avoid bass buildup. Live, its thick character fills the space and immediately gives a "wall of sound" impression, while remaining adjustable so as not to drown out the rest of the band.

Settings and features: character, but under control

The Jupiter V2 revolves around a set of controls designed to tame a generous fuzz. The gain offers a wide range, from crunchy fuzz to a fiercer, compressed saturation. The volume, reworked in this version, makes output level adjustment easier, especially when you want to match the pedal's volume to your clean tone or push the amp's input.

The tone has been adjusted for better high-end response: useful to avoid a too dark sound with humbuckers or to bring back attack to a down-tuned guitar. The Mode switch changes the diode clipping arrangement (3 configurations), influencing fuzz texture, compression feel, and harmonic organization. Finally, the Bass Cut cleans up the low end: ideal if your amp gets muddy, if you play through a large cabinet, or if you stack the Jupiter V2 with another distortion.

For further control, an internal gate via trim pot allows either noise reduction and tightening of note endings, or deliberately seeking more "spatty" sounds, with that dying battery impression. The whole remains in true bypass to preserve the signal when the effect is off.

The sound

The Jupiter V2 delivers a fuzz with a thick and rough grain, with an immediate sense of power under the fingers. Its strength lies in its ability to change behavior: depending on the clipping mode, you can get a fuzz that is more dense and smooth, or conversely more aggressive and gritty, with more bite in the attack. The tone and Bass Cut settings help position the pedal in a mix, avoiding the classic fuzz pitfall of "disappearing" when the band plays loud.

On the dynamics side, the Jupiter V2 responds well to playing variations and guitar volume: you can shift from a dirty drive to a thick fuzz by modulating attack and settings. And if you like more unstable textures, the internal gate opens the door to crackling, choppy sounds, perfect for edgy riffs or leads that intentionally disintegrate.
