From the legendary 1073 to a reincarnation designed for modern studios
Considered one of the most iconic preamp/EQs in recording history, the 1073 shaped much of modern pop/rock aesthetics thanks to its punch, warmth, and ability to "push" a source without aggression. The WA73-EQ continues this legacy by paying tribute to the classic British circuit while offering practical integration for today's workflows (insert, front DI, LED indicators, internal power supply).
Who it's for and what it's for: vocals, guitars, drums, and bass that "cut through the mix"
The Warm Audio WA73-EQ is aimed at sound engineers, producers, and home studio users seeking a true analog signature right from the capture stage. On vocals, it adds presence and rich density; on snare or overheads, it enhances attack while retaining body; on electric or acoustic guitar, it adds definition; and thanks to the instrument input (DI), it becomes an excellent front-end for bass and synths, with transformer saturation controllable at the output level.
Key features: character, control, and vintage-style EQ
High gain and saturation control
Gain up to 80 dB combined with output level control allows choosing between a clean, detailed sound or a more colored tone. You can increase gain to enrich harmonics, then adjust the final level without losing the circuit's musicality.
Inductive EQ and high-pass filter: sculpt fast, sculpt right
The 3-band inductive EQ is designed for effective and natural corrections: thickening lows, scooping mids, or opening highs without harshness. The 4-position inductive high-pass filter helps clean up low-end rumble, vibrations, and proximity effect right at recording. As a new feature, the additional high-frequency options (12 and 16 kHz) broaden the palette compared to a strict 1073 Vintage.
Essential switches during tracking
The Tone knob (input impedance) adapts response and "feel" depending on the mic and source. Also included are polarity inversion, 48V phantom power, and a Ground Lift switch to secure sessions.

Questions frequently asked
Does the Warm Audio WA273-EQ support recording two sources simultaneously?
Its 2 channels allow processing two sources in parallel, for example a vocal and a guitar. Each channel combines a preamp with a 3-band equalizer.
What gain and what type of saturation does this preamp offer?
The gain can reach 80 dB. The output level control allows adjusting the harmonic coloration related to the transformers while setting the final level.
What equalization frequencies are available?
The lows can be set to 35, 60, 110, or 220 Hz, and the mids to 360, 700, 1,600, 3,200, 4,800, or 7,200 Hz. The highs offer 10, 12, and 16 kHz, with two additional frequencies compared to the 1073 Vintage.
Can a bass or synth be plugged directly on the front panel?
The front DI instrument input is designed for basses and synthesizers. The gain and output level controls allow adapting the signal coloration during recording.
What settings facilitate recording with microphones?
The inductive high-pass filter has 4 positions to reduce vibrations, rumble, or proximity effect. Phantom power 48 V, phase reverse, Ground Lift, and the impedance Tone selector are also included. The rack format occupies 2 units.
