What Waves IR1 Convolution Reverb Is For

Waves IR1 is a convolution reverb designed to place your sources in a credible and detailed space, as if they were recorded on location. It excels in mixing and post-production whenever you need to convey a real environment feel: vocals, acoustic instruments, drums, orchestra, ambiances, as well as dialogues and sound design. Whether you're looking for a spacious concert hall, an intimate room, a church, a corridor, a car interior, or a scoring stage, IR1 allows you to "transport" your recordings into a coherent acoustic space while maintaining the necessary control to integrate it cleanly into the mix.

Main Features

Realistic Convolution with a Familiar Workflow

The strength of IR1 lies in combining the realism of convolution with ergonomics close to classic reverbs. You'll find essential parameters for modern mixing: RT60 (decay time), size, density, management of ER buildup (early reflections construction), and a 4-band equalizer to sculpt the damping and prevent the reverb from cluttering the low-mids. The result: a natural reverb without wasting time, with clear settings even if you come from an algorithmic reverb background.

Advanced Control: Direct, Early Reflections, and Tail

Unlike an "all or nothing" approach, IR1 separates direct sound, early reflections, and reverb tail. Each section has its own level and predelay controls, useful for positioning a vocal upfront, widening a piano, or adding depth to a snare without drowning the attack. You can also trim the start of the impulse for an instant attack, or shorten the end to lighten processing and reduce CPU usage.

Envelope Shaper: Making Convolution Expressive

Impulse responses are inherently static, but IR1 goes further with an Envelope Shaper that allows nonlinear responses: faster or slower decays, gated reverb, tails that swell before fading, rhythmic chopping, and other creative textures. This is a real asset for sound design, transition effects, or achieving a "produced" reverb on drums and synths while retaining the acoustic signature of the space.

Reverse Mode: Atmospheres Without Losing Intelligibility

The Reverse mode reverses the reverb tail without reversing the original sound. You get a reverb with an evocative and "ghostly" effect while preserving vocal intelligibility and the natural attack of instruments. Ideal for intros, breaks, pad layers, or adding subtle tension on a lead without blurring the transient.

A Massive and Open Library

The core of the pack is a 4.8 GB library with over 2,000 spaces recorded using high-end field recording gear, including famous locations often captured with different listening positions and microphone directivities. IR1 can also faithfully reproduce classic digital reverb units. And if you already have your preferences, you can import third-party IRs in WAV format or create your own using the included sweep file.
