The ARIUS series brings this heritage into a home format: an elegant cabinet, immediate playability, and above all a touch response designed to support both the first years of lessons and resuming after a break. In this spirit, the YDP-166 emphasizes expressiveness (subtle nuances, legato control, attack precision) and coherent sound reproduction, so that each session feels more like a real piano moment than just simple practice.

Keyboard Design

The Yamaha ARIUS YDP-166 is equipped with an 88-key GrandTouch-E keyboard, designed to reproduce a more natural acoustic piano feel, with precise dynamic control. Its touch offers several sensitivity curves (Hard, Medium, Soft, Fixed) to adapt the response to your playing style. The keys feature synthetic ivory and ebony surfaces for better grip, and the escapement provides a more realistic sensation in pianissimos and repetitions. On the pedal side, there is a complete 3-pedal configuration: Damper (with half-pedal function), Sostenuto, and Soft.

Sound Quality

The main sound is based on sampling of the Yamaha CFX, the brand's iconic concert grand piano, for a clear and balanced timbre. The VRM Lite (Virtual Resonance Modeling) technology enhances the sense of resonance and harmonic coherence, while the IAC (Intelligent Acoustic Control) helps maintain a pleasant perception even at low volume. The maximum polyphony of 192 notes allows working on pieces rich in pedal and chords without note dropouts. For sound projection, the YDP-166 combines 2 x 20 W amplifiers and 2 x 12 cm speakers with diffuser, to achieve a more focused image and even sound from bass to treble, particularly appreciated in a living room or study room.

Educational Functions

Designed for motivating daily practice, the YDP-166 integrates a metronome, a Duo mode (useful for playing together in the same register, ideal for lessons), and a Dual mode to layer two sounds. The internal library includes 10 demo songs, 50 classical pieces, and 303 lesson songs, providing structure for learning and variety in practice sessions. Thanks to Bluetooth compatibility, you can also play along with your music or control settings from a mobile device depending on your setup, making practice smoother and more enjoyable.
