A Subwoofer Connected to the Heart of the ADAM Audio Ecosystem
The Sub8 PRO is part of the new generation of ADAM Audio subwoofers designed for modern studios. It combines the efficiency of Class D amplification with a scalable DSP platform, designed to work alongside A Series monitoring speakers both in a stereo control room and as part of a multichannel setup.
Compared with a conventional studio subwoofer, the Sub8 PRO takes integration a step further: its network control allows essential parameters to be adjusted from the listening position, acoustic correction profiles to be loaded, and future developments to be implemented via firmware updates. This approach is particularly relevant in studios where bass precision directly influences the quality of mixing decisions.
A Studio Subwoofer for Reliable Mixing, Production and Calibration
The ADAM Audio Sub8 PRO is designed for producers, audio engineers, composers for picture and content creators who want to extend their monitoring system without sacrificing clarity. Its low-frequency range makes it easier to control the energy of a kick drum, the foundation of a bassline, electronic sub-bass or the low-frequency effects of an audiovisual mix.
Thanks to its three operating modes, it easily adapts to a range of workflows. Stereo mode is suitable for conventional 2.1 configurations. LFE mode applies a dedicated 120 Hz low-pass filter, making it suitable for immersive setups and Dolby Atmos workflows. Finally, Wide mode allows the subwoofer to reproduce its entire frequency range, leaving bass management to an external processor or another stage in the audio chain.
DSP, Calibration and Precise Low-Frequency Control
Controlled Bass Reproduction
The Sub8 PRO is built around an 8-inch woofer with a paper cone reinforced with fibers. Its rubber surround enables substantial excursion while maintaining stable mechanical behavior. The ferrite magnet motor, complemented by demodulation rings, helps reduce distortion and stabilize the voice coil inductance.
The front-ported bass-reflex enclosure features a port optimized through FEA analysis. This design aims to homogenize airflow through the port in order to limit turbulence, air-flow noise and unwanted resonances at high levels. The result is cleaner, denser bass that is easier to place in a mix.
Efficient Amplification and Intelligent Protection
Its PWM amplifier delivers up to 200 W RMS to the woofer, with a peak power of 325 W when the limiter is disabled. The DSP controls the filters, crossover and equalization, while independent thermal and peak limiters protect the loudspeaker and electronics. The Sub8 PRO can therefore maintain controlled reproduction during extended listening sessions.
ADAM Control and Integrated Acoustic Correction
Via Ethernet, the ADAM Control software provides access to level, phase, Delay and four bands of parametric equalization. This makes it possible to time-align the subwoofer with the monitors and fine-tune its response according to the room acoustics or listening position.
The integrated DSP can also accommodate filters created with Sonarworks SoundID Reference. This compatibility simplifies the calibration of a stereo or multichannel system comprising ADAM Audio speakers and the Sub8 PRO, without adding an external correction processor to the signal path.
Analog, Digital and Footswitch Control
The two balanced XLR/TRS combo inputs and two XLR outputs ensure easy integration into an analog studio chain. For control rooms equipped with digital systems, the AES3 input and output connectors carry two channels at 24-bit/96 kHz, reducing unnecessary conversions.
The phase control offers eight positions, while selectable crossover frequencies at 70, 85, 100 and 115 Hz facilitate pairing with different nearfield monitors. A dedicated TS jack input accepts a latching footswitch to instantly bypass bass management and check the balance of the mix without the subwoofer.
