Essential Information About the Dynaudio Pro 9S Subwoofer
Essential Information About the Dynaudio Pro 9S Subwoofer
- Extended bass down to 22 Hz to control sub-bass during mixing and mastering, without artificially "boosting" the low end of the spectrum.
- New 300 W Class D amplification, more dynamic and efficient than that of the BM 9S II, delivering firm and fast bass even at sustained levels.
- 9-inch long-throw MSP woofer: greater excursion for deep, detailed, and well-controlled bass, ideal for modern production (808, synth bass, sound design).
- Complete studio integration: adjustable low-pass filter, SAT outputs with switchable high-pass filter, 0/180 phase, and master/slave mode for chaining multiple subs.

A modern subwoofer designed to complement the LYD series and succeed the BM 9S II
The Dynaudio Pro 9S was designed as the natural partner for the brand's studio monitors, especially the LYD series, while remaining perfectly suited alongside older setups like the BM range. Visually and in terms of footprint, it retains a compact format close to the BM 9S II it replaces, but its goal is clear: to offer a more ambitious foundation and better control of low frequencies, approaching the performance level of a larger model like the BM 14S II.
Its sealed enclosure architecture favors precision and clarity over a "boom" effect. Combined with a dual front baffle and a thick front panel, this design helps reduce unwanted vibrations and maintain a clean response, useful when making reliable decisions about the low-end balance.
Who is it for and what are its studio applications?
The 9S is aimed at producers, engineers, and creators who want to secure the low end of their mixes without changing their monitors. By adding a calibrated subwoofer, your main speakers work more comfortably: they focus on the upper bass and midrange while the 9S handles the most demanding frequencies. The result: less distortion, more headroom, and a more stable image when the mix gets dense.
It integrates well in both stereo and surround setups. In small to medium-sized studios, its compactness facilitates placement, and its controls allow adaptation of the crossover to your room acoustics. The crossover filter, adjustable over a wide range, lets you target a typical crossover around 80 Hz or fine-tune according to your monitors, listening position, and room response.
Control, filtering, and connectivity: a subwoofer designed for clean integration
Deep bass that's usable in production
Thanks to its long-throw driver, the 9S goes very low while preserving useful micro-details: kick attacks, bass sustain, tom resonances, 808 sub, or managing the low end on masters intended for streaming. The specified response of 22 Hz to 175 Hz allows evaluation of what many domestic listening systems mask, and helps avoid unpleasant surprises on more generous systems (club, car, home theater).
Crossover settings and monitor relief
The variable low-pass filter (crossover) lets you set the ideal crossover frequency, typically where your monitors start to lose energy. Meanwhile, the SAT Out outputs offer a selectable (or bypassable) high-pass filter to filter satellites and prevent them from unnecessarily reproducing the low end. This approach improves overall control and clarifies the low-midrange, a critical area for accurate translation on other playback systems.
Master/slave chaining and simple alignment
The master/slave function is ideal if you want to chain multiple subwoofers (for example, to better distribute bass in the room). The 0/180 phase adjustment helps realign the subwoofer with your speakers depending on placement, to minimize nulls at the listening position. Finally, Auto ON/OFF provides everyday convenience in the studio by preventing the system from staying powered unnecessarily.

Questions frequently asked
Is the Dynaudio 9S compatible with LYD and BM monitors?
Designed to complement Dynaudio LYD monitors, this subwoofer can also be integrated into BM series setups. Its SAT Out outputs offer a flat, 60 Hz, or 80 Hz high-pass filter to relieve the satellites.
What is the frequency response of the subwoofer?
The stated frequency response ranges from 22 Hz to 175 Hz at ±3 dB. The 230 mm long-throw MSP woofer is installed in a sealed enclosure.
How to adjust the crossover on the 9S?
A variable low-pass filter from 50 Hz to 150 Hz allows adjusting the crossover frequency with studio monitors. The high-pass filter on the satellite outputs can be disabled or set to 60 Hz or 80 Hz. A 0/180° phase switch facilitates alignment depending on placement.
What connections are available on this Dynaudio subwoofer?
The connectivity is based on XLR inputs and outputs, with a master/slave function that allows chaining multiple subwoofers.
Is the Dynaudio 9S suitable for a small studio?
With dimensions of 266 x 276 x 320 mm and a weight of 10.5 kg, this model features a compact size for small to medium studios. Its 300 W amplification and maximum level of 106 dB ensure bass reproduction down to 22 Hz.
