A "next-generation" microphone designed as a character tool

Manufactured in Berlin, the ESSENCE embodies a decidedly modern approach to studio microphones: providing a very faithful capture base, then letting the sound engineer choose the output "engine" that will shape the sound. Whereas most microphones impose a unique signature, Aim Audio relies on a patented design with switchable Transformer / Electronic output, allowing instant switching from a vintage-musical aesthetic to a fast and highly defined reproduction, without changing microphone or placement.

Who is it for and what studio applications?

The ESSENCE is aimed at sound engineers, musicians, producers, and creators who want a cardioid condenser studio microphone capable of covering a wide range of sessions, from demanding home studios to professional studios. Its cardioid pattern facilitates source isolation, limits room pickup, and helps achieve a usable signal even in untreated environments.
On vocals, it emphasizes intelligibility and detail while allowing added density via the transformer mode. On acoustic guitars, brass, or strings, it captures transients and playing texture; on more aggressive sources (percussion, highly dynamic instruments), the electronic mode delivers a sense of speed and clarity, with immediate control thanks to the pad and high-pass filter.

Switchable output, immediate control, and premium design

Two outputs, two aesthetics, one microphone

The key innovation of the ESSENCE lies in its switchable output. In Transformer mode, the microphone delivers a softer, harmonic, and "dense" texture, particularly flattering on timbres (vocals, guitars, brass) when seeking a fuller and more musical sound. In Electronic mode, the response becomes faster, more linear, and transparent: a relevant choice when preserving attack, precision, and clarity of a take, especially on acoustic and percussive instruments.

1-inch capsule selected by ear

The ESSENCE features a true condenser large-diaphragm capsule: a 1-inch gold-plated Mylar capsule, handcrafted and validated through double-blind listening tests. The result is a balanced frequency response, good detail management, and natural behavior on intensity variations, useful both for close and moderate distance recording.

Optimized internal electronics: low noise, high dynamics

Its internal electronics, comprising four printed circuit boards, aim for very low self-noise and high stability. The microphone is designed to handle high SPL levels (up to 140 dB SPL according to specifications) and preserve signal purity, securing takes with strong dynamics and allowing more aggressive mixing treatments without raising noise floor.

Studio ergonomics: backlit controls, pad, filter, and peak LED

In sessions, everything is designed for fast and clean work: backlit controls (dimmable and lockable), -10 dB pad to protect the input stage on strong sources, 80 Hz high-pass filter to reduce footsteps, vibrations, and intrusive proximity effects, and a peak level LED indicator to monitor headroom at a glance.

Oval metal housing, integrated mount, and optional accessories

The fully metal housing with oval design ensures robustness and comfortable handling. The integrated direct stand mount simplifies setup, while the ORBIT suspension and SENTRY pop filter accessories complete the ecosystem (not included). The microphone comes with a vegan leather pouch, practical for transport and storage between sessions.
