A Modern "Tape Echo Spirit" Delay, Designed for Vintage Grain

The Anasounds Utopia aims to capture what makes tape echoes charming: a sense of depth, softened attack, and repeats that naturally blend into the playing. Rather than seeking a clinical and ultra-defined delay, it emphasizes a more "alive" character, close to an Echoplex-style tape echo, with a configurable modulation that recalls the slight instabilities and texture of vintage systems. The result is a warm and vintage analog delay, designed to enhance your sound without overpowering it.

Who Is the Utopia For, and In Which Styles Does It Make a Difference?

The Utopia is aimed at guitarists (and musicians more broadly) who want a characterful delay, easy to use, but capable of going deep when you start sculpting the settings. In blues and rock, it's perfect for soft slapbacks, solos that gain presence, and thickened rhythms. In indie, post-rock, or ambient, its modulation allows for moving soundscapes, undulating echoes, and more "lofi" textures if desired. In a studio context, it quickly delivers a vintage signature; live, it remains intuitive thanks to its four external controls and easy-to-adjust mix on stage.

Controls and Settings: From Plug-and-Play to Sound Designer Finishes

On the front panel, the pedal offers four external controls: delay (delay time), mix (effect level), modulation (amount of movement), and repeats (number of repeats/feedback). This direct approach allows you to find a good sound in seconds, whether you're after subtle thickening or a prominent delay.
To go further, the Utopia includes internal controls for fine adjustments: luminance (to calibrate behavior and response), lofi_mode (for a rougher, more vintage texture), mod_depth (modulation depth), mod_rate (modulation speed), and voicing (overall voicing). It's the ideal tool to adapt the pedal to your guitar, amp, and place in the mix, without complicating everyday use.
Regarding pedalboard integration, the true bypass switching ensures a direct signal when the effect is off, and the external 9V DC power supply (negative polarity) is designed for simple and reliable use, with a hum and noise filter built into the pedal.

Sound Signature

The Utopia's signature is a round, warm, and decidedly vintage delay, with repeats that settle behind the note rather than competing with it. The dynamics remain pleasant under the fingers: playing softer makes the echoes subtle and enveloping; playing harder brings more presence and grain to the delay. The modulation adds a very musical dimension, ranging from a slight "wobble" that widens the sound to more pronounced movements for immersive textures. Thanks to the voicing and lofi mode, you can choose between a rather elegant and defined tone or a more worn patina, ideal for retro atmospheres and breathing delays.
