A Cult Utopia, Updated for Today

A decade ago, Anasounds shook the boutique scene with a PT2399 delay that didn't try to "sound digital" but aimed to capture the spirit of a tape echo without its mechanical constraints. The idea: keep the organic feel, thickness, and presence of a tape echo while preserving clear definition in the high frequencies.
Since then, the family has expanded (Utopia Deluxe, Dystopia), becoming more complete and modern. But the original Utopia has maintained a special status: a straightforward, inspiring pedal designed for playing rather than programming. The Utopia Mk2 fits perfectly within this philosophy: the DNA of the first model, with refined voicing and a very low noise floor, all in a compact format suited to today's pedalboards.

An Intuitive Delay for Live, Studio, and Crowded Pedalboards

The Utopia Mk2 is for anyone wanting a musical delay without spending hours tweaking. From beginners to seasoned guitarists, you can quickly dial in a rockabilly slapback, classic rock solo delay, or wider ambient and post-rock soundscapes.
Its delay time (up to about 400 ms) makes it especially comfortable with short to medium repeats: clear attacks, dynamic bounce, and a "living" feel under the fingers. In the studio, it naturally sits after drives and modulation and before reverb, but it also works well vintage-style placed before a pushed amp to regain that "echo as part of the grain" vibe.

Clear Controls, Inspiring Modulations, and Useful Internal Settings

On the front panel, Anasounds goes straight to the point: Feedback (number of repeats), Time (delay time), Mix (dry/wet blend), and Tone. The latter is a true signature: it acts as a Tilt EQ on the repeats, allowing you to darken the delay for a bucket brigade style or open up the highs for a more modern precision without losing character.
The Modulation 3-position switch offers three immediately usable modes: Off for a clean delay, one position for subtle tape echo flutter-style movement, and a more expressive position adjustable via internal Rate and Depth trimpots (from light chorusing to full-on lo-fi vibrato). Inside, another setting lets you choose the bypass behavior: True Bypass (hard bypass) or Tails (buffered bypass with naturally decaying repeats).

The Sound

The Utopia Mk2 has that typical grain of successful "analog style" delays: repeats that sit in the mix with a slight texture without masking your attack. The slapback is particularly punchy and dynamic, and when you push the Feedback, the pedal can go into auto-oscillation for experimental transitions, tension build-ups, or controllable drones via the Time knob.
Modulation is another pillar of the sound: rather than adding a generic chorus, it evokes the breathing of a tape and then shifts to a more lo-fi color when you select the customizable mode. This is typically the kind of delay you often leave on because it "dresses" the sound without overplaying. Artist-wise, the Utopia has notably been spotted on setups associated with Laura Cox and Yusuke (lynch.), which sums up its playground: expressive rock but also more atmospheric textures when pushed.
