A "voice channel" designed as the centerpiece of your vocal recording
The ART Voice Channel follows the tradition of channel strips dedicated to vocals: a single unit that gathers everything essential between the microphone and the recorder. ART's approach emphasizes a tube preamplification stage capable of adding density and presence while preserving detailed transient and nuance reproduction. Its unique feature is combining this analog section with an integrated audio interface and very broad digital connectivity, making it suitable both in the studio and mobile setups.
For whom and for what: vocals, podcasting, instruments, and "mix-ready" recording
This channel strip is designed for those who want to secure a take and shape the sound right at recording: singers, rappers, voice-over artists, podcasters, streamers, as well as instrument recording (acoustic guitar, bass via DI depending on your chain, brass, strings, overheads, etc.). The benefit is twofold: you get clean and controlled gain thanks to the preamp, then you manage dynamics with the compressor and expander/gate, before finalizing the tone with the parametric equalizer. The result: a more consistent track, better placed in the mix, and often less dependent on heavy post-production processing.
Integrated processing and routing: a true flexible studio chain
Tube microphone preamp: switchable phantom power and adjustable impedance
The microphone preamp features switchable phantom power to accommodate condenser microphones and variable input impedance to optimize microphone/preamp matching. Adjusting impedance can help refine the sense of presence, high-frequency response, and low-end control depending on the microphone and source. The ART tube technology provides a warm signature, useful for adding dimension to a too "dry" vocal or rounding off a recording while maintaining precision.
Dynamics: compressor and expander/gate for more controlled recording
The compressor stabilizes level variations (vocals, bass slaps, instrument attacks) and enhances clarity in dense mixes. The expander/gate helps clean the signal by reducing noise between phrases (hiss, ventilation, room ambiance), especially useful in home studios and for podcasting. An important feature: the compressor is switchable pre/post, facilitating routing and chain optimization depending on whether you want to compress before or after certain processing/transfer stages.
Parametric equalizer: quick placement in the mix
The parametric equalizer is used to correct and enhance: reduce resonance, brighten diction, boost useful low frequencies, or tame harshness. Used subtly, it allows you to produce a "finished" track right from the recording, speeding up sessions and delivering more consistent recordings day to day.
Conversion and digital: from studio to computer without detours
Thanks to the integrated 24 bit / 192 kHz audio interface, the Voice Channel can become the central link in a simple and efficient setup: microphone to channel strip, then direct recording. The USB connection to Mac or PC facilitates integration into most current production environments, while the analog outputs and various digital formats allow insertion into an existing control room, external converter, digital console, or multi-device configuration.

Questions frequently asked
Does the ART Voice Channel work with a condenser microphone?
The tube mic preamp includes a switchable phantom power supply and variable input impedance. These settings allow adaptation to condenser microphones and adjustment of the response according to the microphone used.
Is it possible to record directly via USB at high resolution?
The built-in sound card provides a USB connection to Mac or PC at 24 bit / 192 kHz.
Is the compressor pre or post-processing?
The compressor can be switched between pre and post to suit its placement in the signal chain. The expander/gate reduces noise between phrases, such as hiss or ventilation sounds. Dynamics can thus be controlled before recording via the integrated interface.
What digital connectivity is available?
An ADAT Lite-pipe digital connection is available in addition to the USB format. Analog outputs are also provided for insertion into a control room or digital console.
How many rack units does this console channel occupy?
The chassis occupies 2 rack units. The built-in parametric equalizer allows correction of resonances or adjustment of the tonal balance of the source.
