Essential Information About the Bacchus JT WL4-BP/M SYP-BS-MH Bass

  • "Japan Tune-up" Setup: inspected and set up by a dedicated division in Matsumoto (Nagano, Japan) for immediate playability right out of the case.

  • Rare High-End Look: Someiyoshino Pink Burst Satin finish with open-pore, inspired by tones previously seen on limited edition Bacchus Handmade models.

  • Versatile JB DNA: Original JB Set + simple and effective electronics, ideal for navigating from smooth groove to sharp attack.

  • Modern Comfort: maple fingerboard with a 12.0" / 305 mm radius, narrow nut 1.50" / 38 mm, and a listed weight of 4 kg for long sessions without struggling with the instrument.

Japan Tune-up: The Bacchus "Handmade" Spirit with Stage-Ready Preparation

The Japan Tune-up series is designed for those who want a reliable, consistent instrument that's ready to play without mandatory "setup" adjustments. Produced in Indonesia, this bass is then set up and adjusted in Japan, in Matsumoto (Nagano), by a dedicated team, following the demanding standards that made the Bacchus Handmade models famous since the early 2000s.

This WL4-BP/M also stands out with its SYP (Someiyoshino Pink) finish in Pink Burst Satin: a challenging light gradient to master, with painting techniques inspired by the brand's historic workshop craftsmanship. The result: a bass that catches the eye without sacrificing the "wood" feel thanks to the open-pore finish.

Who Is This WL4 Suitable For, and In Which Styles Does It Excel?

With its typical "JB" configuration, the Bacchus JT WL4-BP/M targets a wide range: demanding beginners looking for a serious, well-set-up instrument, intermediate players who play in bands and need versatility, and even advanced players seeking a stable and inspiring bass for daily use.

Its natural playground includes funk (precise attack, popping notes), pop and rock (solid tone in the mix), soul and R&B (roundness and volume control), as well as modern jazz. The 2 volumes + 1 tone electronics are immediate, and the pull-up "turbo switch" allows switching to a more aggressive register, handy for standing out during a chorus or thickening a pick line.

Sound: The JB Character Boosted by Expressive Luthiery and a "Turbo Switch"

The Original JB Set pickup duo delivers the expected palette of a JB-format bass: the neck pickup provides a round and full foundation to support the groove, while the bridge pickup adds valuable definition for fast passages, fingerstyle near the bridge, or sharp pick attacks. Blending the two volumes finely controls presence, from smooth to biting.

The maple fingerboard enhances the sense of quick response: clear attack, bright highs, and a tight low end. The 12.0" / 305 mm radius promotes comfortable and consistent action along the entire length, whether you prefer a "light right hand" technique or a firmer touch.

Regarding hardware, the JB Bridge with brass saddles contributes to a well-defined attack and a firmer note sustain feel. The electronics remain intentionally direct: 2 volumes to sculpt pickup balance, 1 tone to go from open sound to a more muted color, and the turbo switch (push/pull) for quick access to a punchier response, useful when you need to "cut through" without adjusting the amp.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

The bass comes with a gig bag and a truss rod wrench. To maintain the original feel exactly, you can opt for a set of D'Addario XL-165 strings (the factory-installed model on this instrument). Replacing the strings with the same reference preserves similar tension and balance, which helps maintain setup and playing feel.
