Japan Tune-up: The Bacchus Spirit, Tuned for the Stage
Part of the Japan Tune-up series, the Bacchus JT WL4-QM RSM/M NAS embodies a simple idea: to offer a bass with refined design and coherent wood choices, designed to be immediately effective in rehearsal and live performance. Made in Indonesia, it stands out with a "musician-oriented" approach: comfort, stability, and versatility, without sacrificing aesthetics thanks to its quilted maple top and satin finish.
Who Is This 4-String Type S For?
With its nut width of 38 mm and 4-string format, this Bacchus is particularly suited for bassists seeking a fast grip: beginners wanting a reliable and pleasant bass, as well as intermediate players looking for a versatile instrument to cover multiple styles. Its "JB" DNA makes it comfortable in funk, pop, rock, blues, and fusion, with enough definition to stand out in a mix while keeping the low end clean and articulate.
A JB Sound Palette, From Vintage Grit to Modern Attack
The Original JB pickup set delivers that typical "J-style" character: a generally rounder and warmer neck pickup, and a tighter, more precise bridge pickup for bite and definition. The two volume controls allow fine blending of the pickups, while the tone control rounds off the high end to shift from a modern snappy sound to a more muted color. The Turbo Switch (push-pull) adds a handy option to boost presence and impact, useful for cutting through during pick playing, more pronounced slap, or choruses demanding extra energy.
On the luthiery side, the combination of a natyoh body and torrefied maple neck/fingerboard promotes a clear response and sharp attack with well-sustained notes. The JB bridge with brass saddles contributes to stability and vibration transfer, helping keep notes clear, especially on back-and-forth lines and ghosted phrases.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
To stay as close as possible to the original feel, you can opt for a set of D'Addario XL-165 strings (the same reference as the factory setup) suited for the 34" / 864 mm scale length. A standard strap is also perfectly compatible to secure playing while standing, and a good quality 6.35 mm jack cable is recommended to fully exploit the pickups' dynamics in rehearsal and on stage.
