The Essentials to Know About the Bacchus JT WL4-QM RSM/M REDS Bass

  • Torrefied Maple Neck and Fingerboard: more stable feel, precise attack, and comfort along the entire scale length.

  • Premium Look: quilted maple top with a Red Satin open-pore finish for an elegant and lively appearance.

  • Jazz Bass-style Versatility: Original JB Set pickups and simple, effective control layout with 2 volumes + 1 tone.

  • Turbo Switch (pull-up): a punch reserve at your fingertips to switch from a round tone to a more incisive sound.

Japan Tune-up: The Bacchus Spirit, Between JB Tradition and Refined Finishing

With the Japan Tune-up series, Bacchus offers instruments designed to provide an immediate and coherent playing experience, inspired by classic aesthetics. The JT WL4-QM RSM/M REDS fits this approach: a 4-string bass in a "Type S" format, with a familiar tonal base (JB architecture) enriched by modern choices like torrefied maple and a Turbo Switch. The result is a bass that is accessible, serious, and visually distinctive thanks to its quilted maple top.

For Whom and Which Styles? A 4-String Comfortable Everywhere

This Bacchus is aimed at demanding beginners as well as intermediate musicians seeking a reliable, versatile bass that is pleasant to set up. Its 4-string 34" (standard) scale immediately reassures: familiar landmarks, balanced string tension, and natural compatibility with most methods and styles.

Musically, it's a bass designed to cover a wide range: pop, rock, funk, variety, indie, but also jazz and soul thanks to the volume duo that allows fine blending of the pickups. The Turbo Switch adds a more direct and punchy option, useful for standing out in a mix, thickening a riff, or gaining presence during a pick passage.

Tone: The Clarity of JB, Grain and Sustain Thanks to Wood and Hardware Choices

The tonal foundation comes from the Original JB Set: two pickups with a typical "Jazz Bass" character, capable of going from a round, deep low end (neck pickup) to a sharper, more articulated attack (bridge pickup). The dual volume control is a real asset: by slightly blending the two, you get a very musical balance, with clear mids and a clean low end. The tone control then allows switching from a bright, snappy sound to a more mellow color, ideal for vintage fingerstyle lines.

The Turbo Switch (activated via the pull-up on the tone) brings an immediately noticeable change in behavior: you gain punch, presence, and perceived volume, which can help cut through a dense mix or add energy to a chorus. It's also a very useful option on stage when you want variation without touching the amp.

From a luthiery perspective, the torrefied maple neck (and torrefied maple fingerboard) promotes a quick response: the attack is clear, harmonics stand out well, and the feel under the fingers is often drier and more precise, appreciated for articulated playing. The natyoh body provides overall balance with solid fundamentals, while the quilted maple top contributes a brighter and more defined signature, complementing the electronics.

Finally, the JB bridge with brass saddles supports definition and sustain: notes remain clear, attacks are crisp, and the instrument maintains good stability whether you play fingerstyle, with a pick, or slap. The open-pore Red Satin finish completes the package with a more organic feel and a particularly refined look.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

With a 34" / 864 mm scale length, this bass is compatible with long scale string sets: a D'Addario XL-165 (45-105) set will be perfect as a replacement, just like the original strings. To complete your setup, a 6.35 mm instrument jack cable and a tuner (clip-on or pedal) are universal essentials, useful both in rehearsal and on stage.
