The ME-90B follows the spirit of BOSS "ME" multi-effects: an intuitive pedalboard format where each effect family has dedicated controls to recreate the feel of a pedalboard. Here, the approach is clearly bass-oriented, with a Preamp/EQ section based on AIRD technology, designed to deliver a realistic and usable sound both on stage amps and direct to console.

Who Is It For, and In Which Styles?

The ME-90B suits both intermediate bassists who want to cover a full repertoire and experienced musicians looking for a compact and reliable system. It excels in rock, funk, pop, metal, gospel, and electro, thanks to its drives, synths, modulations, and ambiances. Live, its direct-access footswitches and differentiated LEDs facilitate quick changes; in the studio, USB and XLR output make it an effective tool for clean recording.

Controls, Modes, and Customization

The ergonomics emphasize spontaneity: in Manual mode, you activate/deactivate effect sections like separate pedals; in Memory mode, you recall your patches with one press. Effects are organized into six sections usable simultaneously (compressors, pitch/filters, drive/synth, modulation, delay, reverb, plus effects dedicated to the expression pedal). A Blend control allows mixing the direct bass signal to preserve attack and clarity, and the Send/Return loop facilitates integration of your favorite pedals. Advanced editing is done via BOSS Tone Studio (Windows/macOS), with the ability to replace certain effect/preamp types, organize memories, and add up to 3 user IRs. A Bluetooth option (BT-DUAL adapter) enables wireless audio and editing via the mobile app.

The Sound

The ME-90B favors a firm and articulated low end, with dynamics that respect right-hand playing and level variations. AIRD preamps and EQ allow going from a clear, modern DI sound to more colored and "amp" signatures, while retaining definition. Compressors and filters provide control and groove, while drives, synths, and modulations open a wide creative field without muddying the low spectrum.
