A Waza Innovation Designed to Enhance Tube Amps
The Waza Tube Amp Expander was born from a simple idea: to allow guitarists to push a tube amp into its ideal zone without the usual compromises of traditional attenuators. Designed with Waza expertise and the Tube Logic approach, it sits between your amp's speaker output and your destinations (cabinet, mixer, recorder, headphones) to preserve the amp's sonic signature while expanding its capabilities. Whereas many solutions alter playing feel or power saturation, this system emphasizes amp/load interaction, a key element of the "cranked" sound.
Who It's For and In What Contexts the Waza Tube Amp Expander Makes a Difference
This product is aimed at guitarists who love the character of a tube amp-from vintage combos to modern high-gain-and want to fully exploit it at home, in the studio, rehearsal, or on stage. In a home studio, it becomes a "plug and play" hub to record a pushed amp sound at a controlled level. Live, it secures the tone: you send a consistent direct signal to the front of house while keeping a stage cabinet if desired. It suits both demanding musicians and professionals, especially if you're looking for a more reliable, faster-to-set-up, and reproducible pedalboard/rig from gig to gig.
Controls, Presets, and Connectivity: A True Amp Control Center
At the heart of the system, the variable reactive load and impedance adjustment allow fine-tuning of your amp's response, aiming to recreate the feel of a familiar cabinet. You have 10 customizable presets that can include your EQ choices, effects, mic simulation, IRs, effects loop status, and control parameters (including MIDI Program Change and amp channel switching when compatible). On stage, simple front access lets you recall a set, and a Write button facilitates quick saving of tweaks.
Real-time control is designed for playing: compatible with BOSS footswitches GA-FC and FS (optional), plus MIDI input/output for integration into advanced setups. On the audio side, the Expander features a 100-wattclass AB power amplifier (discrete analog design) with volume control to drive external cabinets or even add presence to a low-wattage amp in a band setting. Finally, the high-end DSP section (32-bit floating-point AD/DA conversion, 96 kHz) ensures modern quality for simulation and effects.
The Sound
The sought-after sonic character here is not "just another pedal" coloring your chain: the Waza Tube Amp Expander primarily aims for faithfulness to your amp's behavior. By pushing the power stage, you regain the grain, natural compression, and pick response that make tubes charming, all while keeping volume manageable. Impedance settings (Resonance-Z and Presence-Z) refine attack, the "punch" sensation in the low mids, and the openness of the highs, delivering a more "cab-like" response than a simple loadbox. The direct outputs then add a studio finishing layer via mic emulation and/or IR loading for a mix-ready sound without losing playing dynamics.
