A "Leave Your Amp at Home" Solution Designed for the Modern Pedalboard
The Strymon Iridium follows the line of high-end solutions for playing live without an amp, without sacrificing playing response. Thanks to Matrix Modeling, each amp model is built to finely reproduce the circuit behavior, then extended to offer more tonal options than the original designs. Add to that impulse response speakers and a controllable room ambiance: you get a compact, coherent rig ready to plug in.
Who Is It For, and In What Contexts?
Iridium is aimed at guitarists who want a credible amp sound in home studios, on tour (fly dates), silent rehearsals, or on stage with in-ear monitors. From blues to rock, pop to worship, and even ambient textures, it excels whenever a clean, stable, and easy-to-recall direct sound is needed. It's also an excellent base if you like to build your drive/fuzz upstream and then "hit an amp" behind it, just like in a real setup.
Controls, Modes, and Connectivity: Simple Like an Amp, Powerful Like a Studio
The Drive, Level, Bass, Middle, Treble controls behave like those on an amp, straightforward and to the point. The "Room" section combines a stereo IR (256 ms) and a spring-type reverb to place your sound in a small, medium, or large room without drowning the attack. In stereo, Iridium becomes a formidable tool for wide recordings, delays/modulations on output, and instantly mixable stage sounds. The EXP input allows either parameter control (Expression) or pre/post volume control with a logarithmic curve (Volume), and the USB port is used to manage your IRs via dedicated software.
Sound Character
Iridium's personality lies in its dynamics and responsiveness: it translates right-hand nuances, guitar volume, and how your pedals push the input. The models cover a spectrum from bright, snappy cleans to edgy crunches, up to denser, more muscular tones. The stereo IRs provide the "snapshot" of the cabinet and microphone, with a very natural rendering, and the Room adds just enough air to avoid the overly dry effect of direct inputs.
