A GB Designed to Modernize the Jazz Sound Without Distorting It
The Cort GB series revisits the "Jazz Bass" spirit by adding more comprehensive electronics and performance-oriented hardware choices. On this GB-FUSION, the goal is clear: to maintain the definition and articulation typical of Jazz, while offering more power, headroom, and tone-shaping options thanks to the active mode and 3-band EQ.
For Which Bassist and Styles?
The Cort GB-FUSION 5-string is particularly aimed at intermediate to advanced bassists seeking a versatile 5-string capable of holding its own in a band without struggling in the mix. The B string and active electronics make it an excellent candidate for pop, rock, funk, gospel, R&B, and contexts requiring solid low end, while remaining credible in a more vintage register via the passive mode.
The Sound
The alder body provides a very musical balance: present but clean lows, clear mids, and never harsh highs, perfect for keeping the bass line upfront without masking the rest. The torrefied maple top adds a sharper attack and a sense of precision, useful for pick playing or slap techniques.
The two Voiced Tone VTB-ST pickups allow you to navigate from a tight and articulate sound (bridge pickup) to a rounder low end (neck pickup), with a blend control for fine-tuning the mix. The active/passive preamp and 3-band EQ offer great adaptability: scoop mids for a modern slap tone, boost lows to support heavy rock, or stay passive for a more organic character.
