The Camden EC1 embodies Cranborne Audio's philosophy: offering a very high-performance preamp designed to be clean, fast, and faithful, in a standalone format easy to integrate into any studio setup. Where some so-called "transparent" preamps still impose a subtle imprint, the Camden EC1 aims for stable and reproducible capture, notably through phase and transient management that limits phase cancellation effects responsible for summation anomalies in multi-mic recordings. This model's particularity is to combine this "clean" foundation with Mojo, a discreet analog saturation circuit that can be activated on demand to expand the sonic palette without changing the audio chain.
A studio preamp for recording, DI, and coloration on demand
The Camden EC1 targets sound engineers, producers, and musicians seeking a reference microphone preamp for vocals, acoustic guitars, percussion, overheads, or any source where precision is paramount. Its low noise floor also allows amplification of low-sensitivity microphones with a comfortable sense of headroom and silence, useful for voice-over, soft takes, or sound design.
Thanks to dedicated microphone, line, and Hi-Z input modes, the Camden EC1 can serve as a high-end instrument DI for bass and guitar, as well as a characterful tool on line-level sources: keyboards, drum machines, stems, or effects returns. The Thump style is particularly suited for bass-rich instruments: it excites the low spectrum content by increasing harmonics in the 100 to 20 Hz and below range without boosting fundamental frequencies, which can give a sensation of fuller, better "placed" bass in the mix. Since this is not an equalizer, the result naturally depends on the source and its existing bass content.
Monitoring and studio integration
The Camden EC1 includes a headphone amplifier with independent mixes to facilitate tracking, as well as connectivity designed for studio integration, including the C.A.S.T. interface for insertion into compatible systems.
