A "Standard" Choice for Compact Violas: Balance at the Core of the Range

On a "Short Scale" viola, the feel under the fingers and tuning stability can vary more than on more traditional sizes. Medium tension generally offers the best compromise: enough resistance to support the bow and intonation while maintaining a pleasant flexibility for smooth dynamic changes and position shifts. Designed for a 330 mm scale length, this set aims for a consistent response across all strings, suitable for daily use.

For Whom and in Which Styles?

These strings are intended for the vast majority of violists, from serious beginners to intermediate players, as well as advanced musicians seeking versatile tension. They are particularly suitable for contexts requiring flexibility: classical repertoire, chamber music, school orchestras, or regular home practice. On a compact viola, Medium tension helps maintain comfortable playability without sacrificing sound support.

Sound Characteristics

Medium tension promotes a balance between warmth, clarity, and ease of response : the attack is quick, dynamic changes remain controllable, and the instrument retains good timbral stability. The airtight pouch packaging helps preserve the condition of the strings before installation by limiting exposure to factors that accelerate oxidation, which helps maintain a more consistent feel and reliable response over time.
