D'ADDARIO ZYEX VIOLA STRING SET "SHORT SCALE" MEDIUM TENSION

The Zyex Series: A Modern Solution to Synthetic String Challenges

With Zyex, D'Addario offers a contemporary approach to synthetic core strings, designed to combine stability, responsiveness, and playing comfort. The range is particularly renowned for its ability to stabilize quickly after installation while delivering a warm tonal color. This "Short Scale" set transfers these benefits to small-format violas, respecting the specific dimensions that determine tension balance and instrument response.

For Whom and in Which Styles?

This Medium tension set is optimized to meet the needs of the vast majority of violists: an excellent balance between flexibility, projection, and bow control. It is well suited for advanced beginners, intermediate, and professional players seeking a comfortable string capable of supporting regular practice (study, ensemble, orchestra). Its warm tonal signature naturally adapts to classical music and chamber music, and can also appeal in contemporary music when a rounder, less incisive timbre is desired.

Tone

The Zyex synthetic core produces a warm, rich, and full sound, with a sense of stability that reassures from the first hours of playing. Instrument adaptation is reported as quick, helping to achieve a homogeneous tone and comfortable intonation faster. These strings are also an excellent choice for violas with a very bright character : they tend to round off the attack and enrich the midrange register while maintaining a good bow response and a wide tonal palette to nuance phrasing.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

To ensure compatibility, choose only accessories explicitly designed for "Short Scale" viola (33 to 35.6 cm) and verify the 330 mm (13") neck length indicated by your instrument or luthier. If you are unsure about the exact size, it is best to confirm the dimensions before purchasing a case, tailpiece, or any other sized component.
