A modern preamp designed as the ideal partner for distortions
Designed as the natural complement to distortion circuits, the Clean Bass Preamp "Harmonic Booster" operates on a simple principle: to offer a clean, stable, and detailed foundation capable of enhancing an effects chain without making it muddy. While some preamps heavily color the signal, this one aims for a balance between fidelity and harmonic enrichment, preserving the attack, low end, and dynamics of your playing while adding more presence and "relief" in the mix. Its portability and versatility make it a practical solution for musicians seeking a clean, solid, and coherent bass sound from one backline to another.
For which bassists and situations?
This pedal is aimed at a wide range of musicians, from beginner bassists wanting to shape their sound to experienced players looking for a precision preamp capable of adapting the bass to various contexts (rehearsal, studio, live). It is particularly suitable for styles where clarity is essential: pop, funk, rock, worship, modern metal (in combination with distortion), as well as soul and R&B when seeking a clean and controlled low end.
On stage, it can serve as a volume booster for a passage, a quick corrector in challenging acoustics, or a sonic "glue" when switching instruments. In the studio, its detailed EQ helps place the bass in the right spot, especially thanks to the parametric mids: perfect for bringing out growl, clearing space for the kick drum, or softening harshness in the upper mids depending on the take.

Questions frequently asked
Can the Darkglass Harmonic Booster function as a clean boost?
The Boost control covers a range from -20 dB to +20 dB, allowing attenuation or increase of the signal level. The Character control can be set for a flatter frequency response for clean gain action.
What is the frequency range of the mids?
The mid frequency is selectable from 250 Hz to 2.5 kHz, with a gain of ±20 dB. This section notably allows to reinforce low mids or emphasize attack in the upper mids.
Can this preamp be placed before or after a distortion pedal?
The pedal can be placed before a distortion to shape the frequencies sent to the saturation. After a distortion, it helps to refocus the spectrum and stabilize the level.
What power supply is required for the Harmonic Booster?
A regulated 9 V DC power supply with negative center is required, with a consumption of 30 mA.
What are the pedal's connectors and dimensions?
The input uses a 6.35 mm mono jack for instrument or pedalboard output, and the output is a 6.35 mm jack to amp or effect. The black enclosure measures 75 x 111 x 43 mm and weighs 250 g. The bass is adjustable ±20 dB at 80 Hz, while the treble controls ±20 dB at 5 kHz.
