A "Next Generation" Memory Lane: The Diamond Spirit, More Possibilities

The Memory Lane continues the legacy of delays that made Diamond Pedals, a Canadian brand founded in 2003, renowned for offering high-end, musical pedals that are simple to use. The philosophy remains the same: to capture the grain and playing feel of an analog Bucket Brigade delay, while adding modern features for easy integration into today's pedalboards.

After the brand ceased operations in 2020, Diamond Pedals was revived in 2021 and relaunched with a new range that respects the iconic circuits while enhancing them. This Memory Lane carries the DNA of the Memory Lane Jr and takes it further: more features, extended frequency response, and reduced power consumption, without losing the "alive" character of the repeats.

For Which Guitarists (and Situations)?

The Diamond Pedals Memory Lane targets guitarists (and bassists seeking textures) who want an expressive analog delay capable of covering basics (slapback, subtle echo, rhythmic delay) as well as more crafted atmospheres. It excels in blues, rock, indie, pop, alternative, and ambient genres, notably thanks to the modulated repeats and modes that simplify live transitions.

In concert, the dedicated tap tempo and subdivisions make locking in with the drummer easier, while Trails and momentary modes allow seamless part changes without "cutting" the delay tail. In the studio, the three delay styles quickly provide the right tone, from defined to vintage, without spending hours adjusting the echo in the mix.

Controls, Delay Styles, and Advanced Modes: A Pedal Designed for Playing

The Memory Lane is controlled via Mix (delay level), fbk (feedback), dly (delay time), and mod (modulation) knobs, complemented by a tap/mode switch to access tempo and mode functions. The approach is straightforward: set your parameters, tap the tempo, and enjoy the organic BBD character.

Its 3 delay styles allow instant adaptation of the repeats' behavior: Modern (static sample rate, silent tempo changes, 50 to 1200 ms), Warm (darker repeats, variable sample rate, 150 to 1200 ms), and Vintage (variable sample rate, 65 to 550 ms, tap tempo subdivisions automatically doubled). For further flexibility, the pedal offers Auto DIV (automatic doubling/halving of delay times) and a Doubler function for instant time doubling.

Finally, the Memory Lane features advanced modes accessible through various footswitch combinations: Geezer mode for a "classic simple delay" approach, Trails mode to let repeats live on after bypass, as well as momentary or on/off behaviors depending on your playing style.

Sound

The Diamond Pedals Memory Lane delivers a signature typical of analog BBD delays: full-bodied, musical, and slightly textured repeats, with a response ranging from clean and precise (Modern) to warm and worn-in (Warm/Vintage). The modulation adds a subtle or more pronounced "chorused" dimension, perfect for thickening a lead, widening an arpeggio, or creating an ambient bed without harsh highs.

The pedal remains very responsive under the fingers: it reacts well to dynamics, handles attacks gracefully, and naturally sits behind the dry signal. In practice, it can be unobtrusive when you just want "a good delay," but quickly becomes inspiring when playing with feedback, tap tempo, and division/doubling functions.
