A Blue Hippo that has become a Way Huge classic, now in "Smalls" format

The Blue Hippo is one of those modulation pedals with an immediately musical character: an analog chorus designed to remain warm, rich in harmonics, and pleasant to play, rather than cold or too clinical. This MKIII version retains the "plug-and-play" spirit of the model while adopting Way Huge's Smalls format, ideal if you are looking for a high-end chorus/vibrato without sacrificing pedalboard space.

Who is it for, and in which styles?

The Way Huge Blue Hippo Chorus/Vibe is aimed at guitarists (and bassists depending on the context) who want a simple analog modulation to dial in, but capable of covering very diverse textures. In clean settings, it adds breadth and a "3D" sensation perfect for pop, funk, indie, and arpeggiated parts. With overdrive or distortion, it thickens the tone and adds movement for rock, modern blues, and more singing leads.

In the studio, it fits easily into a mix thanks to its straightforward controls. Live, its minimalist operation (two knobs + one selector) allows you to quickly find your settings, even on stage.

Controls, modes, and design: the essentials, well thought out

The Blue Hippo MKIII gets straight to the point with two essential controls. Speed controls the modulation rate, from slow, wide undulations to faster movements. Depth adjusts the intensity: subtle stereo-perceived widening (even in mono) and gentle chorus, or more pronounced modulation for liquid textures.

The Chorus/Vibe selector changes the effect's nature: in Chorus mode, you get a soft and very musical widening; in Vibe mode, the pedal shifts toward a deeper vibrato, with a stronger sense of rotation and movement, ideal for psychedelic atmospheres, vintage themes, or parts that need to "float" above the band.

On the integration side, the true hardwire relay bypass ensures a direct signal path when the pedal is off, preserving your tone and dynamics on a pedalboard.

The sound

Expect a warm and organic modulation, with a nice sense of width and depth that remains usable over a wide range of settings. The chorus stands out with a thick yet clear sound: it dresses chords without drowning them and maintains a pleasant attack on picked parts. In Vibe mode, the movement becomes rounder and more immersive, perfect for giving an immediate identity to a simple riff or enriching a vintage-style clean tone.

The Blue Hippo responds very well to playing dynamics: the harder you play, the more the effect retains a natural presence without feeling like it's compressing the signal. It's a pedal designed to stay musical in real life: in rehearsals, concerts, and mixes.
