A Contemporary High-Gain, Designed from Scratch
Black Clouds is not just another clone: it is DSM Humboldt's "Lead Tone Machine." Designed for ultra-tight rhythms, massive palm mutes, and cutting solos, it combines surgical attack with noise control. The X-Gate cuts sharply between phrases and can add a slight "crossover distortion" texture for a more biting grain, without sacrificing note articulation or definition.Who Is This Pedal For?
For modern metal, djent, prog, and heavy rock guitarists who want a precise, fast-playing drive ready for both stage and studio. The three modes make it equally comfortable in front of a traditional amp or as a preamp into a power amp or FRFR system. A tap on the Master Boost is enough to elevate your leads, and the tight voicing keeps riffs compact in the mix, regardless of pedalboard setup.Technical specifications

Questions frequently asked
Is the DSM & Humboldt Black Clouds suitable for modern metal and djent?
Its high-gain voicing is designed for tight riffs, massive palm-mutes, and defined solos. The X-Gate quickly cuts noise between phrases to enhance percussive silences.
Can it be used as a preamp into a power amp?
The Preamp mode adjusts output and brightness to the attack of a power amp. The pedal can be powered with 9 to 18 V DC center negative, drawing approximately 40 mA.
What equalization settings are available?
The active EQ offers Bass under 300 Hz at ±10 dB, Mid from 300 Hz to 2 kHz at ±12 dB, and Treble above 2 kHz at ±15 dB. A Pre Tone control acts before the drive stage to adjust bass/treble balance right at the input.
Does the boost work when distortion is off?
The Master Boost remains usable in bypass mode and provides up to +20 dB output gain. A second control, the Pre Boost, pushes the gain stage up to +30 dB to thicken and compress the signal.
What power supply is required for this pedal?
A mains power supply via 2.1 mm DC jack center negative is required; it does not operate on batteries.
