An "Overcharged" PLASMA: the Coil Version, More Radical in the Range

The Plasma Coil adopts the revolutionary approach of the PLASMA series (clipping via discharges in a xenon tube) and pushes it in a more extreme direction. While some distortions rely on LEDs, transistors, or preamp tubes, here the signal is converted into high-voltage pulses then reconverted into analog audio, offering an immediate response feel and a unique character.

Designed with Jack White and Third Man Records, the Coil stands out with its integrated octave and subharmonic section: a true "crazy sibling" of the Plasma Pedal, crafted to thicken riffs, enhance harmonics, and make low notes roar.

Who Is the Plasma Coil For?

This guitar effects pedal is aimed at musicians seeking an atypical distortion capable of cutting through the mix effortlessly. It is especially suited for garage rock, modern blues, stoner, fuzz rock, noise, and all aesthetics where texture, bite, and sustain are desired.

In the studio, it excels at doubling a track and creating an aggressive second "voicing." Live, it becomes a riff weapon thanks to the FX footswitch (ideal for restarts, breaks, and phrase endings). On a pedalboard, it integrates easily with its standard pedal format and 9V power supply.

Controls, FX Modes, and Ergonomics

The Plasma Coil delivers a 100 percent WET signal: no Blend knob, fully embracing the PLASMA character. The VOLUME controls output level, while the LOW FREQ and HI FREQ EQs firmly shape the low and high ends of the spectrum, useful for tightening a combo or pushing a stack.

The VOLTAGE control adjusts the discharge threshold in the xenon tube: low settings produce a more pronounced gating effect and sharp contrasts; high settings make the pedal highly sensitive and favor long sustained notes. The FX section offers 6 types of octave down and octave up (subharmonics, upper harmonics, and combined modes) and is controlled via a dedicated footswitch, configurable in latching or momentary mode.

Sound

Expect a dense, edgy, and very "alive" distortion with a clear attack and dynamics that follow your playing. The tone has immediate presence, with a raw and electric edge reminiscent of a futuristic fuzz rather than a transparent overdrive.

Subharmonic modes drastically thicken the low end with a glitchy rendering between ring modulation and bit-crush, while the upper octave adds octafuzz brightness and highlights harmonics. This is a pedal made for signature sounds, from massive riffs to fiery leads.
