A Seventies Icon Brought Up to Date
Requested by bassists for decades, the Grabber returns under the Inspired by Gibson banner with the spirit that made it successful: a simple, effective design and a distinctive sonic personality. This model is associated with artists who have left their mark on the history of rock, punk and alternative music, and this Epiphone reissue aims to recapture that character while offering construction and electronics suited to today’s needs.
Which Bassists and Styles Is It Suited To?
The Epiphone Grabber is equally suited to beginner bassists looking for a solid and inspiring instrument, as well as intermediate and advanced players who want a characterful bass with real tonal grain. It excels in rock, punk, grunge and pop, where a firm foundation, mids that cut through the mix and a crisp attack are called for. Coil-splitting also helps broaden the tonal spectrum for more defined or snappier parts.
The Sound
With its alder body, the Grabber delivers a balanced response, with prominent mids and excellent clarity, making it ideal for holding down the band without getting lost in the mix. The maple neck and maple key add attack and precision, enhancing the percussive character of both fingerstyle and pick playing. The Epiphone Bass Humbucker delivers generous low end and immediate punch, while the SPDT mini-switch for coil-splitting lets you switch to a more open and cutting color, making it easy to vary between warmth and definition depending on the song.
