Summary of This Score
This score offers the study conductor of a fairy ballet in two scenes, inspired by a Russian national tale (after Michel Fokine). It includes a preface ("Preface - Vorwort - Préface") as well as a very detailed musical journey: the Introduction opens the I. Tableau in the "enchanted garden of Kastchei," where the appearance and the Dance of the Firebird, its capture and supplication, are followed by the entrance of the thirteen enchanted princesses with the game of golden apples (Scherzo) and the Korovod (round dance). The tension rises up to Kastchei's palace: fairy chimes, guardian monsters, capture of Ivan Tsarevich, dialogue with Kastchei, intercession of the princesses, then the decisive intervention of the Firebird with the dance of the enchanted suite and the Infernal Dance. The end of the tableau leads to the lullaby, the awakening, and the death of Kastchei, before darkness. The II. Tableau concludes with the disappearance of the palace and spells, the animation of the petrified knights, and general rejoicing, offering an ideal reading for studying form, transitions, and orchestral architecture.
