A Jazz Bass Designed for the Stage: Fender Spirit, Today's Gear
The Jazz Bass is a classic in the Fender universe, renowned for its versatility and articulation. This Player II Modified Active Jazz Bass continues that tradition by adding performance-oriented upgrades: full active electronics, Noiseless pickups, and modern hardware. Made in Mexico, it aims for an excellent balance between vintage DNA, reliability, and current demands (rehearsals, live, home studio).
Who Is It For, and Which Styles?
This bass is especially suited for intermediate to advanced bassists who want a responsive Jazz Bass, easy to dial in, capable of switching from a round, deep sound to a snappy tone instantly. It excels in funk (clear attack), pop, and rock (present low-mids), yet remains very comfortable in jazz and fusion thanks to precise controls and the available passive mode at any time.
The Sound
The alder body provides a natural balance: firm lows, clear mids, and a consistent response, ideal for sitting well in the mix. The maple fingerboard enhances attack and definition, with a brighter top end, appreciated for pick playing as well as slap. The two Noiseless pickups retain the classic "J-Bass" character (dynamics, tone, and articulation) while reducing unwanted noise. The active preamp with its 3-band EQ allows fine adjustment of bass, mids, and treble, while the active/passive switch ensures reliability and instant access to a more organic feel. Finally, the HiMass bridge contributes to better note sustain, with increased sustain and a stronger attack.
