A Precision Bass Reimagined in the Player II Modified Spirit
This Player II Modified Active Precision Bass retains the DNA of the Precision Bass (ergonomics, attack, and presence) while adding decidedly modern choices: a set of noiseless pickups, full active electronics, and neck details designed for contemporary playing. It stands as an "enhanced" Precision Bass, crafted for bassists who want an all-around instrument without sacrificing Fender character.
Who Is This Bass For and Which Styles?
Ideal for intermediate to advanced bassists (and very accessible to discerning beginners), it easily covers pop, rock, funk, R&B, gospel, indie, and cover band contexts. The active/passive switch is a real asset on stage: you can instantly adapt the dynamics and tonal color depending on the song, amplifier, or pedalboard.
The Sound
Its alder body provides a natural balance (firm lows, present mids, smooth highs), while the maple neck and fingerboard add definition and a sharper attack. The Precision-type neck pickup delivers the expected "punch" and body, and the Jazz-type bridge pickup refines the attack and grain, with reduced noise thanks to the Noiseless design. The 3-band active preamp allows fine sculpting (bass/mid/treble), and the active/passive tone control makes the instrument suitable for both modern, detailed sounds and more vintage approaches. The HiMass bridge contributes to stability, attack precision, and solid sustain.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
To stay as close as possible to the original feel, plan for a set of 4-string bass strings with a .045-.105 gauge (the same as the factory setup). A strap and a good-quality 6.35 mm jack cable are also essentials for stage and rehearsal.
