A Baltic Collaboration That Has Become Iconic in the World of Atypical Saturations
The PLASMA Drive Eurorack was born from the collaboration between Gamechanger Audio and Erica Synths. It carries the founding idea of the PLASMA series: instead of using diodes, transistors, or tubes for clipping, the module converts your audio into electrical discharges inside a tube filled with xenon, then reconverts it into an analog signal. The result: a distortion with a unique behavior, as visual as it is sonic, clearly standing apart from classic drive circuits.
Integrated in Eurorack format, this PLASMA Drive goes beyond the original pedal thanks to natural CV interaction and octave options designed for sound design and modular performances.
For Which Musicians and Uses?
The PLASMA Drive Eurorack is aimed at modular synth users, electronic music producers, and sound designers who want a distortion with character, capable of transforming a bassline, an acid lead, a pad, or a drum machine into raw and edgy material.
It excels in industrial, noise, techno, EBM, metal aesthetics, and all productions seeking a dense, very present saturation with a natural "gate" feel when pushing the distortion. In the studio, it becomes a formidable modular reamping tool; live, its CV and trigger control make it especially performative.
Controls, Modulation, and Creative Functions
The interface is straightforward: IN LVL adjusts the input level (crucial for dosing the circuit's response), VOLTAGE sets the distortion intensity, and DRY/WET mixes the original signal with the saturated signal to preserve attack and clarity. The two key parameters, VOLTAGE and DRY/WET, each have a CV input to automate drive increases, blend variations, or synchronized pumping effects.
The equalization section offers BASS and TREBLE to adjust the module's response, with an EQ ON/OFF switch that makes the EQ assignable : it can apply to the standard path and, depending on the setting, also operate upstream of the distortion to shape how the PLASMA saturates (sharper attack, tighter lows, etc.).
On the harmonic side, the module integrates tracking oscillators with an octave selector (+1, -1, or combination) and access to deeper sub octaves. The oscillators can be activated manually but especially controlled via TRIG inputs : ideal for making octaves appear/disappear on certain sequence steps and creating rhythmic, lively distortion perfectly locked to your patch.
The Sound
The PLASMA Drive Eurorack delivers a fast, responsive, and very "tactile" distortion: the input dynamics strongly influence the saturation density and grain, giving an impression of instant response to playing and modulations. The spectrum is wide, making it particularly effective on basses and harmonically rich sounds, without collapsing in the low end when pushing the drive.
Its character is decidedly distinctive : it produces an electric, granular texture, sometimes crackling depending on level and mix, with raw energy that easily cuts through a mix. In parallel blend (DRY/WET), it remains clear; at 100% wet, it becomes a texture machine for drones, extreme leads, and saturated percussion.

Questions frequently asked
Is the Gamechanger Audio Plasma Eurorack compatible with a standard Eurorack case?
The module requires a Eurorack +/-12 V power supply via ribbon cable and draws 135 mA on +12 V and 87 mA on -12 V. It occupies 16 HP and has a depth of 45 mm; approximately 50 mm should be allowed depending on shielding and installation.
What type of distortion does the xenon tube produce?
The saturation is generated by electrical discharges in a tube filled with xenon, before being converted back into an analog signal. The result provides an electric and grainy texture, with density strongly dependent on the input level.
Can the distortion be modulated by CV?
Two CV inputs, accepting from -10 V to +10 V, separately control the VOLTAGE intensity and the DRY/WET mix.
How do the octaves and trigger inputs function?
Tracking oscillators offer an upper octave and sub-octaves, including additional lower octaves. The Octave and Sub TRIG inputs allow activation or deactivation of these oscillators according to rhythmic patterns. This control enables harmonics to appear on specific steps of a sequence.
Can the equalization act before the distortion?
The BASS/TREBLE EQ provides a 9 dB boost/cut at 600 Hz in the low range and a 10 dB boost/cut at 1.5 kHz in the high range. The EQ ON/OFF switch allows it to be assigned before and/or after the distortion depending on the setting.
