An Icon of the Sixties, Faithfully Reissued
Born in 1961 and perfected in 1964, the SG Standard made rock history. This 1964 Custom Shop Reissue recreates the key specifications of that pivotal year: more reliable Maestro Vibrola, fuller neck profile close to 1959 Les Pauls, and period-correct manufacturing details. The result is an SG with character, balance, and a decidedly vintage style.
For Whom and Which Styles
Ideal for intermediate to expert guitarists seeking a high-end SG. Perfect tones for blues-rock, classic rock, British pop, garage, and even hard rock thanks to dynamic and open Custombuckers. The Maestro Vibrola adds subtle expressiveness for singing vibratos and shimmering chords.
The Sound
The combination of solid mahogany and short scale delivers a meaty midrange, bright attack, and generous sustain. The Alnico III Custombuckers provide a PAF-like tone: woody lows, creamy mids, silky highs, and nice clarity in the middle positions via the 3-way selector. The ABR-1 bridge tightens focus and stabilizes intonation, while the Maestro Vibrola offers subtle modulation without altering the tone.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
10-46 string set (original gauge) to preserve setup and dynamic response. Flat capo suited for the 12" / 305 mm radius. SG-sized gig bag or case (a Custom Shop case is included). 1/4" mono jack cable, straight or angled depending on your output.
