The Elite Series: Heritage Audio's DNA Made More Accessible
After several years building a solid reputation in high-end outboard gear, Heritage Audio developed the Elite series to offer modern, more efficient manufacturing while retaining the essential elements of the "vintage" sound that made the brand successful. The goal is clear: reduce assembly time through current construction techniques without compromising on critical audio choices.
The HA-73 (Elite) continues the legacy of the 73JR and DMA73 models, with a design faithful to the characteristics of these references. Manufactured in Spain like the rest of the Heritage Audio range, it targets studios seeking a characterful, reliable rack-format preamp ready for daily use.
Who and What For: A Characterful Preamp to Record and Enrich Your Sources
The Heritage Audio HA-73 is designed for demanding home studios as well as production studios wanting to recapture an immediately recognizable analog signature. On vocals, it adds presence and a sense of closeness; on snare or overheads, it adds impact and body; on bass or guitar via the D.I., it delivers solid lows and clear attack.
Its separate XLR line input also makes it an excellent tool to "warm up" already recorded tracks: you can reprocess a track (synth, drum machine, stems, vocals) to add harmonic thickness and slight natural compression linked to the analog path and transformer.

Questions frequently asked
Does the Heritage Audio HA73 Elite provide enough gain for a dynamic microphone?
Its 80 dB of gain and 3-stage class A circuit allow the use of low-sensitivity dynamic microphones, even for low-level recordings. The gain can also be increased to enhance harmonic density.
What is the purpose of the LOZ switch on this preamp?
The LOZ switch changes the microphone transformer impedance from 1200 to 300 ohms. This setting can tame a bright source or modify the feel of dynamics and midrange.
Can bass or guitar be recorded directly?
The ultra-high impedance JFET D.I. input is designed for guitars and basses. It minimizes level or brightness loss of the instrument signal.
Can the HA73 Elite process synths or already recorded tracks?
A separate XLR line input allows connection of synths, external preamps, or converter outputs. It's possible to re-amp stems, a drum machine, or a vocal to add the analog path and Carnhill transformer thickness.
Is the high-pass filter on the HA-73 adjustable?
The class A high-pass filter is fixed at 80 Hz. It helps reduce rumble, mic stand vibrations, and some low-frequency excess on the recording.
