What SourceLab Is For
SourceLab by Initial Audio is a virtual instrument and a true creative "sandbox" for producers, sound designers, and composers. It excels at stacking wavetable synths and multisampled instruments, slicing and replaying loops, sculpting granular textures, programming drum kits and patterns, or sketching harmonic and rhythmic ideas ready for arrangement.
Main Features
Hybrid 6-Source Engine
Up to six layers per preset, each able to load a wavetable, sample, or loop, or even a blend of all three. Each source benefits from unison up to 24 voices, "warp" modes, frequency modulation, and Zynaptiq's ZTX time-stretching for solid timing and clean pitch shifting.
Complete Modulation Suite
Over 14 modulators: AHDSR envelopes with legato and sequencer trigger options, custom-shape LFOs with sync, editable-node MSEGs with looping modes. Ideal for evolving timbres and precise movements.
Granular and Expressivity
The granular engine works on samples and loops with control over size, density, pitch (+/-24 semitones), and randomization of start, gain, and direction. An Arp mode adds musical phrasing. Release-triggered playback and per-voice settings (wavetable position, tuning, phase, panning, gain) provide realism and advanced playability.
6-Layer MIDI Sequencer
A master lane and routable tracks to each source for controlling drums, basses, and leads together or separately. MIDI import/export via drag-and-drop to quickly integrate your ideas into any project.
Modular Effect Racks
Up to 6 racks including compressor, reverb, delay, multiband, and more, chainable in series or parallel by simple drag-and-drop. A master rack allows finalizing a pro mix without leaving the plugin.
Smart Browser and Sharing
Tag-based search, author notes, and images, browsable content inside a preset (sources, patterns, effect chains) for quick recombination. A consolidation system exports your complete banks into a portable file compatible with major DAWs.
Heat Up 3 Compatibility
SourceLab directly loads Heat Up 3 content to leverage its vast collection and enrich it with advanced modulation, granularity, multi-layer sequencing, and custom routing.

Is SourceLab compatible with Mac and Windows?
The software runs on macOS in VST3, AU, and AAX formats, as well as in standalone application mode. On Windows, VST3 and AAX formats are supported, along with a standalone application. Integration is thus provided for the main production environments compatible with these formats.
How many layers can be used in a preset?
Up to 6 sources can be combined in a single preset. Each layer can load a wavetable, a sample, a loop, or a mix of these, with unison up to 24 voices.
Can granular sounds be created with SourceLab?
The granular engine processes samples and loops with adjustable grain size and grain density. Pitch can be modified over a range of ±24 semitones, while start position, gain, and direction can be randomized. An Arp mode allows adding phrasing to the result.
Does the MIDI sequencer allow controlling multiple sounds?
