The Jackson Audio Prism was designed as a global shaping pedal: instead of adding another effect, it serves to unify and re-voice your rig (guitar, amp, other pedals) thanks to its active EQ and boost/preamp stages. The idea is simple: once the Prism is dialed in, you keep a consistent foundation when changing guitars, amps, or venues, without having to tweak the EQ on every pedal.

Who Is the Prism For, and Which Styles Does It Excel In?

The Prism is aimed at guitarists seeking a controlled and more stable tone in the mix: from intermediate to pro level, in studio or on stage. In blues, rock, pop, indie, worship, funk, or metal, it excels at tightening the lows, clearing up the high end, or pushing an amp or overdrive already in place.

Placed at the start of the pedalboard, the active EQ acts as a kind of "master EQ," and the Color mode (treble booster) responds ideally directly after the guitar, especially when playing with the instrument's volume to clean up the sound.

Controls, Modes, and Design: An Architecture Serving the Signal

The Prism combines a wide-range active EQ and three boost/preamp circuits. The Pre-Gain selector (Low/Med/High) determines the amount of gain and character (from clean headroom to breakup/drive), while the Boost control acts as a master level to find the right balance between volume and saturation.

The circuit selector gives access to three very different voices: Trans for a clear, very transparent boost; Amp for a more "amp-like" response with musical harmonic saturation; and Color for a vintage-character treble booster. Each circuit is designed to stay true to its personality, and the whole is complemented by silent switching and an end-of-chain buffer to maintain presence, dynamics, and definition on busy pedalboards.

Finally, the pedal offers a programming mode via the footswitch (accessed by long press) allowing adjustment of practical parameters such as indicator brightness and startup state (on or off at power-up), ideal for stage setups.

The Sound

The Prism can remain subtle or become very directive. In Trans mode, you get a "same tone, but better" feeling: more firmness, more attack, more headroom before saturation. The Amp mode adds thickness and harmonic relief reminiscent of a pushed preamp, perfect for thickening a rhythm part or making a lead stand out without harshness.

The Color mode emphasizes the highs with a typical treble booster character: ideal for waking up a neck pickup, cutting through a mix, or making an already hot amp sing. The major strength remains the responsiveness to playing : the active EQ and gain stages finely respond to pick attack, guitar volume, and dynamics, making it a true "tone-shaping" pedal rather than just a simple boost.
