Tel-Ray spirit in a more compact format
The Morley Power Wah Boost rekindles the aesthetic of 1970s Tel-Ray pedals: a chromed metal housing, chromed treadle and raised base. This reissue retains an immediately recognizable silhouette while adopting more compact dimensions than the original. It therefore fits more easily into a modern setup.
Following the Power Fuzz Wah reissue launched in 2025, Morley continues its return to the vintage effects associated with the world of Cliff Burton. The Power Wah Boost showcases the characteristic wah sweep of this pedal family along with the powerful boost of the original version. It is aimed at musicians looking for both a distinctive sound and an expressive performance tool.
An expressive wah for guitar, bass and keyboards
This pedal is designed for guitarists, bassists and keyboardists who want to shape their phrases with their feet and have plenty of gain available. Its operation remains straightforward: two switches for selecting the effects and a gain control for adjusting the boost. Experienced musicians can also explore how it interacts with the other stages in their audio chain.
In rock, hard rock or metal, it can be used for powerful solos, expressive bass lines and pronounced rhythmic accents. It can also add movement to a keyboard part. On stage or in the studio, the ability to separate the two effects means you are not limited to using it only for passages combining wah and boost.
Two separate effects, direct foot control
The boost section has its own switch and a gain potentiometer, with amplification of up to +40 dB. This headroom makes it possible to adapt the level to the desired effect. Depending on the settings and the available headroom in the devices placed after the pedal, the boost can increase the volume or drive a stage that is already close to saturation even harder.
The wah features a separate switch, so you can keep the boost on its own, use only the sweep or combine both. Morley's optical circuit eliminates the noise associated with the sweep potentiometer of a traditional wah. The movement of the treadle thus becomes the main way to shape the character of your notes.
LED indicators let you check whether the wah and boost are active. The phosphorescent coating makes the pedal easier to spot in the dark, a useful detail on a dimly lit stage. The unit operates with an optional 9 V DC adapter.
The sound
The Power Wah Boost focuses on a distinctive, expressive wah whose sweep evokes Cliff Burton's sonic approach. It is not designed to blend into the background: its appeal lies in changing the color of the signal as you move your foot, emphasizing an attack, bringing out a phrase or giving a sustained note an almost vocal inflection.
Combined with the wah, the boost can emphasize this presence and drive the downstream effects or amplifier harder. The result will therefore also depend on your chain: more level in a setup with available headroom, or more saturation if the next stage is already being pushed. The gain control remains essential for finding the right balance between definition, impact and volume control.
