The JHS Pedals Kodiak follows this tradition by aiming for the tone and feel of Fender- and Vox-style amp tremolos, while adding features clearly designed for modern playing: foot tap tempo, rhythmic subdivisions, and multiple waveforms to radically change the effect's behavior.

The Kodiak is suitable both for musicians looking for a serious first tremolo (clear controls, immediate results) and for experienced guitarists who want a tremolo locked to a click, drummer, or sequence. In surf, country, and vintage rock, it easily recreates the classic percussive bounce. In indie, dream pop, and ambient, the tap tempo and waveforms open the door to hypnotic pulses, syncopated patterns, and moving soundscapes.

On stage, the second footswitch dedicated to tap tempo is a real convenience: you adjust the speed in real time without bending down. In the studio, the Ratio function allows locking clear and reproducible subdivisions, perfect for doubling guitars, creating rhythmic stutters, or animating a clean tone without overwhelming the mix.

Controls, modes, and connectivity: designed for the pedalboard

The JHS Pedals Kodiak focuses on clear ergonomics with 5 potentiometers : Volume (output level, with boost possibility), Speed (rate), Mix (perceived depth, from nearly transparent to very pronounced), Ratio (subdivisions synchronized to tapped tempo), and Wave (waveform selection). This combination covers everything from subtle accompaniment tremolo to very "choppy" rhythmic effects.

Regarding footswitches, there is an On/Off and a Tap Tempo. The pedal also features a Tap/Expression input (6.35mm Jack) and a side selector switch to choose whether this input serves as an external tap or an expression pedal to control speed. Finally, the audio jacks placed on top facilitate clean wiring on tight pedalboards.

The sound

The Kodiak shines by remaining musical regardless of the setting. In Sine, it delivers a smooth and fluid modulation, very "amp-like," ideal for giving natural breathing to a clean or light crunch. The Square waveform emphasizes attack and produces a sharp chopping, perfect for tight rhythms and stutter-style patterns. The Rhythmic mode adds a more graphic signature, useful for creating patterns that make the guitar feel part of the rhythm section. Finally, Ramp adds a more unstable and "warbly" sensation, halfway between creative tremolo and vibrato impression, excellent for psychedelic textures and dreamy atmospheres.

The dynamics remain very responsive to playing and right-hand placement: the harder you play, the more alive the pulse feels. The Kodiak is also appreciated in indie and modern pop contexts; it can notably be found on texture-oriented pedalboards, such as that of Jessy Caron (Men I Trust).
