A Modern Pedalboard Essential: The A/B Switch for Flexibility
The A/B selector is one of those discreet "utility" pedals that nonetheless transform the daily experience. Historically, this type of pedal became essential with the multiplication of setups: two amps to vary tones, an amp and a tuner output, or two instruments ready to play on the same rig. In a pedalboard, it acts as a conductor: simplifying the stage setup, securing changes, and avoiding risky manipulations between songs.
Who Is It For and What Are Its Uses? From Live to Studio, Guitarists to Technicians
This A/B pedal is designed for all guitarists and bassists who want to save time and make their setup more reliable. In concert, it allows switching from one amp to another with a single press, useful if you alternate between a clean sound and a more biting tone, or if you have a backup amp ready to take over. In rehearsal, it prevents on-the-fly re-plugging and reduces wear on 6.35mm Jack inputs. In the studio, it becomes a simple tool to compare two chains (two amps, two preamps, two takes) and speed up recording sessions.
It is also relevant if you play multiple guitars in the same set (different tunings, single coils/humbuckers, main guitar + spare). The switch lets you keep both instruments plugged in and switch between them cleanly while keeping your pedalboard unchanged.

Questions frequently asked
Can the JHS Pedals Mini A/B Box select two amps?
The A/B switch routes the signal to one of two outputs, allowing switching between two amps with a single press. This setup can be used to alternate between two tonal colors or to have a backup amp ready.
Does this A/B pedal require power?
The external 9 V power supply, not included, is only used to operate the LEDs. Signal switching remains functional without power. Without 9 V, the active path indication via green or red LED is not available.
Does the pedal alter the guitar's tone?
Its passive analog audio circuit is designed for signal routing and preserves playing dynamics.
Can two guitars be left connected on the same pedalboard?
Two instruments can remain connected to switch between them without unplugging the 6.35 mm jack cables. The rest of the effects chain can remain unchanged.
How to use the Mini A/B Box with a tuner?
One output can be reserved for a tuner placed outside the effects chain. This setup allows maintaining a dedicated signal for tuning.
