DV HR: The Jody Jazz Legacy, Between Innovation and Craftsmanship
The Jody Jazz brand, founded by Jody Espina, has built a solid reputation among demanding saxophonists thanks to mouthpieces designed to meet the expectations of advanced students as well as professionals. The DV HR series follows this philosophy: it takes the DNA of the DV models (with their patented design) and combines it with the feel and warmth of a hard rubber (ebonite) mouthpiece. Each mouthpiece is crafted with a high level of attention, ensuring manufacturing consistency and an immediately recognizable sound.
For Which Saxophonist and Styles?
The Jody Jazz DV HR Alto is aimed at intermediate to professional saxophonists who want a versatile and responsive mouthpiece, capable of shifting from incisive playing to a rounder sound without struggling with response. It is particularly suitable for jazz, pop, funk, and stage contexts requiring projection, while remaining relevant for more lyrical passages and ballads thanks to its depth and stability.
Sound and Design
With its 2.11 mm tip opening, this mouthpiece offers great ease of response and a "free" blowing sensation: the note starts quickly, with generous projection and comfortable response across all registers. The patented DV design (secondary window) aims to densify the sound by adding medium and low harmonics, resulting in an alto that gains authority and body without excessive brightness. In terms of design, the integrated bite plate contributes to a clean and durable embouchure grip; for comfort, adding a mouthpiece patch is still recommended. Finally, the gold-plated brass ring at the base increases mass, improving stability, sound foundation, and harmonic richness.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
To preserve comfort and the tooth surface, a mouthpiece patch is recommended. As the mouthpiece is delivered without ligature or mouthpiece cap, be sure to choose a ligature and cap compatible with the alto saxophone and the mouthpiece dimensions.
