From Keeley's "mod culture" to the MK3 Driver: an overdrive with BD-2 PHAT DNA
The MK3 Driver (formerly Muse Driver) is part of Robert Keeley's legacy: a craftsman-engineer who became a reference thanks to his modifications of iconic pedals and a very rigorous approach to component selection. The founding idea remains the same here: starting from a BD-2 "PHAT Mod" base (more body, more musicality) and pushing it further with a new "AT" mode and a germanium circuit, to broaden the palette between transparency, warmth, and sustain.
The result: a modern overdrive with that "boutique" feel that respects the original signal. It naturally fits within the Keeley range as a characterful pedal, simple to dial in, designed to serve the guitar and the player's touch rather than imposing a unique color.
Who is it for, what styles, and in which contexts?
The Keeley MK3 Driver is aimed at guitarists who want an expressive and nuanced overdrive, from serious beginners to studio or stage musicians. Thanks to its two voicings and silicon/germanium choice, it covers a wide range: modern blues, rock, pop, fusion, crunchy funk, and even more aggressive styles if your amp can keep up.
On a pedalboard, it works equally well as a main drive (on a clean or edge-of-breakup channel) or as a push pedal to thicken an amp's crunch. In the studio, it's valuable for layering: a defined "low gain" setting for rhythm parts, then a thicker mode for leads, without radically changing output level thanks to the Level control.

Questions frequently asked
Does the Keeley MK3 Driver operate on 9 V or 18 V?
The required power supply is 9 V or 18 V, with a stated current draw of 27 mA. This format fits a compatible pedalboard power supply.
What is the difference between silicon and germanium modes?
The Drive AT/RK switch selects a silicon clipping, which is sharper in attack, or germanium, which is softer with a natural compression. This choice directly affects the saturation texture.
Is this overdrive suitable for single coil and humbucker guitars?
The mini-toggle Tone AT/RK adjusts the bass filtering to adapt the response for single coils or humbuckers. The Tone, Drive, and Level controls then allow adjusting brightness, gain, and output level.
Can it be used as a boost in front of a crunch amp?
With the Level control, the pedal can push a crunch channel to thicken the distortion. At moderate Drive settings, the signal maintains dynamic response and cleans up progressively with the guitar volume. The voicing can be tightened or made fuller in the lows via the Tone AT/RK switch.
What are the dimensions of the pedal?
The enclosure measures 127 x 67 x 70 mm and features a black finish.
