A Koch "Multi-Tool" Designed to Get the Best Out of Your Amp
The Loadbox II follows Koch's philosophy: offering solid, musician-oriented tools that respect the amp's tone. Rather than trying to "recreate" an amp, it helps you exploit yours under the best conditions: power tubes working hard, richer grain, natural compression, and controlled final volume. With its dummy load function, it also allows you to play and record without a cabinet while maintaining a usable output for a PA system or studio.
Who It's For and Situations Where the Loadbox II Makes a Difference
This power attenuator is aimed at guitarists playing tube amps (combo or head) who want to regain the feel of a pushed amp in an apartment, rehearsal space, or small stage. It suits dynamic clean tones as well as blues crunch, classic rock, hard rock, up to heavy distortion, where the response of power tubes adds density and sustain. In the studio, it becomes a formidable partner for quick recording (DI/line outputs), doubling takes, or sending a signal to a console while keeping a cabinet at a reasonable volume.

Questions frequently asked
Can the Koch Loadbox 16 be used without a speaker cabinet?
The built-in dummy load allows the amplifier to be used without a speaker cabinet connected, including with attenuation set to 0%. A headphone output with volume control enables silent practice.
Which impedance should be chosen for a tube amplifier?
The 16 ohm version must match the amplifier's speaker output impedance. The Loadbox II is also available in 4 and 8 ohm versions.
What attenuation levels are available?
Seven fixed positions are offered: 100%, 40%, 15%, 5%, 2%, 1%, and 0%. This dedicated output system does not use a potentiometer.
Does the DI output allow direct recording?
A transformer-balanced XLR DI output is provided for console or studio use with a maximum load of 600 ohms. Selectable filters offer 1x12 or 4x12 cabinet styles and mic on-axis or off-axis positions. A line output complements this connectivity, with a maximum load of 20 kOhms.
What are the direct outputs of the Loadbox II?
Two unfiltered unbalanced direct outputs are available at -10 dBv and 0 dBv levels, intended notably for effects loop return, another amplifier, or a power stage.
