A Skyline Designed as a "Little" 55-94: USA DNA in a Stage Bass

The Skyline 55-02 follows the lineage of Lakland basses renowned on major stages for their balance and efficiency. It captures the spirit and key specifications of the USA 55-94 series, notably the 35" / 889 mm scale length and a performance-oriented philosophy: a clear B string, solid low register, and active electronics capable of covering many situations. The LH3 preamp and the "best in class" approach to versatility give this 5-string a very current identity, suited for both studio and touring.

For Whom and Which Styles: A Versatile 5-String to Play "In the Mix"

This 5-string electric bass is aimed at intermediate to advanced bassists seeking a reliable, precise platform capable of handling style changes without struggling with the sound. Thanks to its active electronics and MM-J configuration, it easily covers modern pop, funk, rock, metal, gospel, R&B, fusion, and all aesthetics where a clear attack and impeccable note definition are expected. The 35" / 889 mm scale length is a major asset if you often play on the B string and seek a tighter, better-defined response, especially in low tunings or dense mixes.

Sound Character: Active Punch, Definition, and Fine Midrange Control

The Skyline 55-02 is designed to deliver a modern, precise, and "present" sound. Its Lakland MM-J configuration combines a powerful, wide-spectrum foundation with a single-coil style articulation, helping you quickly find the right place between the kick drum and guitars. The Lakland LH3 preamp provides level, attack, and effective EQ: you can cut or boost bass, midrange, and treble to move from a round, deep sound to a sharper, more incisive attack.

In real playing, the strong point also comes from the 35" / 889 mm scale length: the extra tension favors a tight, punchy, and clear B string, more consistent with the other four strings. The internal switches for selecting the midrange boost/cut frequency are particularly useful for adapting the bass to the stage (more "piercing" mids to stand out) or studio (lower mids to thicken without harshness). Power is supplied by a 9 V battery, easily accessible via a clip-on cover compartment, convenient for daily use.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

To fully exploit the long scale, prioritize a 5-string bass string set "long scale" 35" / 889 mm to ensure appropriate string length and winding for the bridge. On the electronics side, always keep a spare 9 V battery in your gig bag to secure soundchecks and gigs.
